1999 VFL Season
The 1999 Victorian Football League season was the 118th season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Springvale Football Club, after defeating North Ballarat by 60 points in the Grand Final on 19 September. It was Springvale's fourth premiership in five seasons, and was North Ballarat's first Grand Final appearance. Springvale Football Club
The Casey Football Club, nicknamed the "Demons" and formerly the "Scorpions", is an Australian rules football club based in Cranbourne East, Victoria. The club, which was known until 2005 as the Springvale Football Club and the Casey Scorpions (2006–16) and was based in Springvale, plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL). It has a reserves affiliation with the Melbourne Football Club. Northern Oval
Eureka Stadium, known commercially as Mars Stadium, is an oval shaped sports stadium located in the Eureka Sports Precinct of Wendouree, north of the CBD of the city of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. History The first permanent oval used by the North Ballarat Football Club was established in 1963 in the centre of the Ballarat Showgrounds show-ring and Harness Racing track that was used by the Ballarat Trotting Club as its main venue between 1952 and 1966. In 1990 a new large all-weather oval (dimensions ) replaced the old harness racing track. Brisbane Lions
The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football in Australia, Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. Dandenong Football Club
Dandenong Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Based in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong, the Redlegs wore navy blue and red as their club colours. Club history From 1953 to 1957 the club played in the Federal Football League. Success was immediate by winning the 1953 flag. Near success continued by being runner-up in 1954 and 1955, a third in 1956 and fifth in 1957. In all 72 wins compared to 25 losses and a draw. John Georgiou
John Georgiou (born 5 October 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Georgiou, recruited from Parkmore, was just 16 years and 210 days old when he made his league debut in the 1992 AFL season. St Kilda won all seven games which Georgiou played that year but he got injured and over the next three seasons could only add a further nine appearances before being delisted. A member of the Greek Team of the Century, Georgiou finished his career at Frankston and won the J. J. Liston Trophy in 1999. Nick Sautner
Nicholas Sautner (born 19 June 1977) is an Australian rules footballer, best known for his Victorian Football League (VFL) football career with the Sandringham Zebras. He also played for Frankston in 2001 and 2002 and Preston in 2003. He won the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal for leading goalkicker in the VFL a record nine times, breaking the record held by the eponymous Jim 'Frosty' Miller of six. He was league leading goalkicker a record six years in a row from 1999 to 2004, breaking the record of four in a row held by George Taylor (1920–1923) and Miller (1968–1971), and won the award nine times in eleven years from 1999 to 2009. Sam Smart
Sam Smart (born 2 May 1975) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally from South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Norwood, Smart was drafted by Adelaide at the 1992 AFL Draft but didn't play a game and was subsequently drafted by Carlton in 1994 AFL Draft however remained in South Australia to complete his medical studies, moving to Victoria at the end of the 1995 AFL season. Stephen Jurica
Stephen Jurica (born 26 June 1976) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Jurica attended Christian Brothers College, Fremantle. A product of the South Fremantle, Jurica was just 17 when he was drafted by Richmond, with the 26th selection of the 1993 AFL draft. He came into the Richmond team halfway through the 1995 AFL season to replace injured key forward Matthew Richardson and performed creditably. In the now famous draw against Essendon, Jurica kicked five goals and later in the season kicked four goals in a win over Collingwood to win a 1995 AFL Rising Star nomination. He ended the season playing in a qualifying final and finished with 21 goals for the year.
