1999 MLB Postseason
The 1999 Major League Baseball postseason was the playoff tournament of Major League Baseball for the 1999 season. The winners of the League Division Series would move on to the League Championship Series to determine the pennant winners that face each other in the World Series. In the American League, the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians returned to the postseason for the fifth straight time, and the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers returned for the second year in a row. 1999 New York Yankees Season
The 1999 New York Yankees season was the 97th season for the Bronx-based Major League Baseball team. The team finished with a record of 98–64 finishing 4 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox. New York was managed by Joe Torre. The Yankees played at Yankee Stadium. In the playoffs, they got to the World Series and defeated the Atlanta Braves in 4 games to win their 25th World Series title. By winning their 25th World Series, the New York Yankees became the most successful team in North America, a record previously held by the NHL's Montreal Canadiens. The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central, it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. After having internal, informal divisions for scheduling purposes during the pre-expansion era, the division was formally created when the National League (baseball), National League (NL) (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The 1999 Boston Red Sox season was the 99th season in the franchise's Major League Baseball history. The Red Sox finished second in the American League East with a record of 94–68, four games behind the New York Yankees, who went on to win the World Series. The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment.
