1999 Challenge Tour
The 1999 Challenge Tour was the 11th season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. The tour started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially renamed as the Challenge Tour at the start of the 1990 season. The Challenge Tour Rankings were won by Spain's Carl Suneson. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 1999 season. Unofficial events The following events were sanctioned by the Challenge Tour, but did not carry official money, wins were still official however. Carl Suneson
Carl José Suneson (born 22 July 1967) is a Spanish professional golfer. He won the 2007 Open de Saint-Omer, his only European Tour success. Early life and amateur career Suneson was born in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria to a Swedish father and an English mother. He represented England in amateur competition, and attended Oklahoma State University in the United States, but in 1996 he took Spanish citizenship. Professional career Suneson turned professional in 1990. He has played extensively on the European Tour and the second tier Challenge Tour. His best finish on the European Tour Order of Merit through 2008 is 48th in 1996, but he has often had difficulty holding onto his tour card. He has been successful at qualifying school on several occasions, but has dropped down to the Challenge Tour more than once, where he finished on top of the season ending rankings in 1999, also finishing second in 2005. Open Dei Tessali
The Open di Puglia e Basilicata is an annual professional golf tournament held in Riva dei Tessali, near Castellaneta, Italy. First held in 1983, there was a brief hiatus before the second edition in 1986. The tournament became part of the second tier Challenge Tour schedule in 1991, where it remained until 2007. Paul Nilbrink
Paul Nilbrink (born 2 May 1971) is an English-born former Swedish professional golfer who has also represented Norway since 2005. He played on the Challenge Tour from 1996 to 2008, winning the 1999 Volvo Finnish Open and the 2000 Norwegian Open. Career Nilbrink was born in England and grew up in Belgium and Sweden. He had a late development in golf and had a handicap of 36 by age 12 , and 13 at age 15. He later studied for a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education at the University of Central Florida in the United States. As an amateur he fought an international match with the Swedish National Team in Hubbelrath, Germany, against Ireland, France and Germany. In addition, he was on the winning team of the Nordic golf championships at Nordcenter Finland. In 1995, he was low qualifier in the Dixie Amateur (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) with the scores of 68, 71, beating Tiger Woods by 7 shots. Philip Golding
Philip Keith Golding (born 25 July 1962) is an English professional golfer. Career Golding was born in Luton, Bedfordshire. He was a promising cricketer who played for Middlesex Colts before he took up golf at the age of 17. He turned professional in 1981, becoming an assistant at his local golf club. Golding has been a regular fixture at the European Tour's qualifying school, where in 2007 he stretched his record to 18 appearances. He has often won a tour card, but up to the age of forty he had never done well enough on the Tour to retain his card automatically. In 2003 Golding won the Open de France, one of Europe's most prestigious events, on his 201st tour start. Bradley Dredge
Bradley Dredge (born 6 July 1973) is a Welsh professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He has won twice on the tour, the 2003 Madeira Island Open and the 2006 Omega European Masters, both by 8 strokes. He also won the 2005 WGC-World Cup in partnership with Stephen Dodd. The Austrian Open is a men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour. It was founded in 1990, and was a European Tour event for seven straight years up to 1996, being held under a variety of names due to regular changes of title sponsor.
