Billboard Latin Music Awards
The ''Billboard'' Latin Music Awards grew out of the ''Billboard'' Music Awards program from ''Billboard'' magazine, an industry publication charting the sales and radio airplay success of musical recordings. The ''Billboard'' awards are the Latin music industry's longest running award. The award ceremonies are held the same week as Latinfest+ (formerly the ''Billboard'' Latin Music Conference). History The first award ceremony began in 1994 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami, Florida, under the name Latin Music Awards to "represent a broad cross-section of Latino talent, covering every music genre," and was then published in ''Billboard Magazine''. The winners were selected based on points accumulated from ''Billboard'''s radio and retail charts and categorized into subcategories designed to reward artists, songs and albums over one year (between March 6, 1993, to March 5, 1994). Elmer Figueroa Arce, better known under the stage name Chayanne, (born June 28, 1968) is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer and actor. As a solo artist, Chayanne has released 21 albums and sold over 15 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists. Chayanne participated in two Puerto Rican telenovelas broadcast by WAPA-TV television station in the 80s. Francisco Fabián Céspedes Rodríguez, also known as Pancho Céspedes (born 28 February 1957) is a Grammy-nominated Cuban musician, singer and songwriter. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Céspedes is a naturalized Mexican citizen. He is most known for his 1998 song, "Vida Loca". Career Céspedes left his physician career to get involved in the romantic music movement called "feeling" (bolero and jazz mixed in Cuba). After his arrival in Mexico in 1993, Luis Miguel included Céspedes's authored song "Pensar en ti" on the album '' Aries'', which was his international debut as a composer. ''Vida Loca'' () is the first studio album by Cuban singer-songwriter Francisco Céspedes, released in August 1997 by WEA Latina. In Spain the album was awarded with an for the best Latin album. It was nominated for Pop Album of the Year by a New Artist at the 1999 ''Billboard'' Latin Music Awards, but lost to '' Carlos Ponce''. Sentidos Opuestos
Sentidos Opuestos is a Mexican Latin pop music duo, formed by singer Alessandra Rosaldo and keyboardist Chacho Gaytán. Its career started in the early 1990s under the instructions of local producer Miguel Blasco. Rosaldo had been a support singer for some pop acts in México, before starting what would be her first lead singing act. The group released a self-titled debut album in 1993, with their songs "Historias de Amor" and "Escribeme en el Cielo" appearing on local charts. Mecano
Mecano was a Spanish pop band formed in 1981 and active until 1992. Mecano became one of the most successful Spanish pop bands of all time. The band is still the best-selling Spanish band, with over 20 million records worldwide. They were considered by some to be avant-garde for their time and part of la Movida Madrileña countercultural movement. They had a brief comeback in 1998. The band's line-up consisted of singer Ana Torroja and brothers Nacho and José María Cano, who worked alongside session musicians such as Arturo Terriza, Manolo Aguilar, Nacho Mañó, Javier Quílez, Ángel Celada and Óscar Astruga. El Reencuentro was the name that six ex-members of musical group Menudo used for their comeback project remembering Menudo's golden era. Ricky Melendez, Rene Farrait, Miguel Cancel, Johnny Lozada, Ray Reyes, and Charlie Masso re-joined to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their success in Latin America, North America, Spain and several other countries in the world. María Fernanda Blázquez Gil (born 21 July 1973), known professionally as Fey, is a Mexican singer and songwriter.
