1999 Belarusian Municipal Elections
The 23rd convocation local councils of Republic of Belarus elections were held in April 1999. Context In 1998 the "Elections of local deputies" law was adopted. The regulation limiting the heads of Councils from holding office for more than two consecutive terms was abolished. Amendments to the law limited the participation of opposition parties' activists. Those convicted of for, for example, participation in demonstrations or unauthorized protests and meetings, were banned. The law complicated the process of candidate selection, and deprived non-governmental organizations of the right to nominate candidates to municipal elections, although workers' associations maintained that right. After events of the mid-1990s, Belarusian society remained politically indifferent to the local governance system. Liberal Democratic Party Of Belarus
The Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus ( be, Ліберальна-дэмакратычная партыя Беларусі, russian: Либерально-демократическая партия Беларуси, Liberal'no-demokraticheskaya partiya Belarusi), or ЛДПБ (LDPB), is a political party in Belarus. It was created in 1994 as the Belarusian successor of the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union. Despite claiming to be a "constructive and democratic opposition" the party ''de facto'' supports the current president, Alexander Lukashenko (much like the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with Vladimir Putin). In the legislative elections, 13–17 October 2004, the party won 1 out of 110 seats. Its candidate in the presidential election of 2006, Sergei Gaidukevich, won 3.5% of the vote. The Belarusian Left Party "A Just World" ( be, Беларуская партыя левых «Справядлівы свет», Bielaruskaja partyja lievych «Spraviadlivy sviet») is a left-wing political party in Belarus that opposes the government of president Alexander Lukashenko. Social Democratic Party Of Popular Accord
The Social Democratic Party of Popular Accord ( be, Сацыял-дэмакратычная партыя Народнай Згоды) is a political party in Belarus. It was created in 1997, and is led by Siarhiej Jermak. It supports the government of president Alexander Lukashenko. The Social Democratic Party of Popular Accord considers itself the successor of the People's Accord Party (PAP). The party has stated its commitment to a social market economy according to the formula: "the market - as far as possible, government regulation - as far as necessary." Such a model aims to cut off the most negative features of a market economy. The party's only seat won in a Belarusian legislative election was in 2000. In the 2018 elections to local councils of deputies, 11 representatives were elected from the party.
