1998 PBA All-Star Weekend
The 1998 PBA All-Star Weekend is the annual all-star weekend of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Instead of the old formats of pitting its stars from the North against the South or the veterans versus the youngsters, the league this time featured the Philippine Centennial Team against a PBA Selection, reinforced by imports. They played twice and the first All-Star Game was held outside of Manila since the annual spectacle was institutionalized in 1989. Cebu Coliseum
The Cebu Coliseum is an indoor arena in Cebu City, Philippines. Its seating capacity is around 5,000. The coliseum hosts various sports events and concerts in Cebu and is the primary venue for CESAFI games. It was also the home of the Cebu Gems of the defunct MBA. On August 4, 1962, one of the first events it hosted was a fight between hometown hero Gabriel "Flash" Elorde and Japanese boxer Terou Kosaka. It was their second of their four fights in a span of 4 years (1961-1965). On March 24, 1979, the first National Arnis Championships. Victor Pablo
Victor Pablo (born August 8, 1970) is a retired Filipino professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. Playing career A former king Tamaraw at Far Eastern University, Pablo was the second overall pick in the 1993 PBA draft. He was drafted by Ginebra San Miguel but failed to reach an agreement with the Gins and was subsequently traded to Pepsi in exchange for center Manny Victorino. At Pepsi, he rejoined coach Derrick Pumaren, his former coach at Triple-V Foodmasters during his PBL days. After two seasons with the Mega Bottlers, Pablo would be involved in two trades in the 1995 PBA season, first with Alvin Teng, whom San Miguel dealt to Pepsi to acquire Pablo and towards the end of the 1995 PBA Governors' Cup eliminations, he was traded by the Beermen to Formula Shell for Paul Alvarez. Center (basketball)
The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. They traditionally play close to the basket in the low post. Centers are valued for their ability to protect their own goal from high-percentage close attempts on defense, while scoring and rebounding with high efficiency on offense. Andy Seigle
Andrew John Seigle (born May 15, 1972) is a Filipino-American retired professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was also a member of the Philippine national basketball team. He is the brother of Danny Seigle, also a basketball player in the same league. Their mother, Blesylda Yadao, is of Chinese Filipino descent while his father is a White American. Career He was considered one of the most dominant and best defensive players early in his PBA Career. He spent most of his time in his last season on the sidelines rather than on the court as he played only 30 games and just 8.9 minutes of playing time per outing, due to ACL injuries in both knees. As a result, the 6-9 center posted a career-low averages of 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. Forward (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Alvin Dale Vergara Patrimonio (born November 17, 1966) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player from the Philippine Basketball Association and is the current team manager for the Magnolia Hotshots. Frederick "Derrick" S. Pumaren, better known on his nickname Manong Derrick, is a Filipino basketball coach who is currently the coach of the De La Salle Green Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). John Best (basketball)
John Herbert Best (born March 27, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. A forward/center listed at 6-foot-8, he played college basketball at Tennessee Tech for 4 years, and in his senior year he ranked 3rd in the NCAA Division I in scoring with an average of 28.5 points per game. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the second round of the 1993 NBA draft (36th overall), but he was cut before the beginning of the 1993–94 NBA season and started his professional career in France.
