Latin Music (genre)
Latin music ( Portuguese and ) is a term used by the music industry as a catch-all category for various styles of music from Ibero-America, which encompasses Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the Latino population in Canada and the United States, as well as music that is sung in either Spanish and/or Portuguese. It may also include music from other territories where Spanish- and Portuguese-language music is made. Terminology and categorization Because the majority of Latino immigrants living in New York City in the 1950s were of Puerto Rican or Cuban descent, "Latin music" had been stereotyped as music simply originating from the Spanish Caribbean. The popularization of bossa nova and Herb Alpert's Mexican-influenced sounds in the 1960s did little to change the perceived image of Latin music. Knight International Center
The James L. Knight Center is a contemporary entertainment and convention complex located in Downtown Miami, Florida. Located within the Miami Central Business District, the venue opened in 1982. The complex is named after famed newspaper publisher, James L. Knight. Since its opening, the complex has hosted many business, entertainment and political events. Annually, it hosts Miami Dade College graduation ceremonies. It also hosted Miss Universe in 1984 and 1985, Miss USA in 1986 and Miss Teen USA in 1985 and the OTI Festival in 1989. Premio Lo Nuestro 1998
The 10th Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony, presented by Univision honoring the best Latin music of 1997 and 1998 took place on May 14, 1998, at a live presentation held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. The ceremony was broadcast in the United States and Latin America by Univision. During the ceremony, nineteen categories were presented. Winners were announced at the live event and included Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández receiving four competitive awards. Other multiple winners were fellow Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel, Spanish singer Rocío Dúrcal and Colombian performer Charlie Zaa with two awards each. Fernández won the award for "Pop Album of the Year," Gabriel and Dúrcal earned the award for "Regional Mexican Album of the Year," and Zaa won for "Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year." The ''Billboard'' Latin Music Hall of Fame is a rarely presented honor presented by American magazine ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, ''Billboard'' Latin Music Awards. The accolade was established in 1994 to recognize "artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages". Vicente Fernández
Vicente Fernández Gómez (17 February 1940 – 12 December 2021) was a Mexican mariachi singer, actor and film producer. Nicknamed "Chente" (short for Vicente), "El Charro de Huentitán" (The Charro from Huentitán), "El Ídolo de México" (The Idol of Mexico), and "El Rey de la Música Ranchera" (The King of Ranchera Music), Fernández started his career as a street performance, busker, and went on to become a cultural icon, having recorded more than 100 albums and contributing to more than 150 films.
