1998 Categoría Primera A Season
The 1998 Categoría Primera A season, known as Copa Mustang 1998 for sponsoring purposes, was the 51st season of the Categoría Primera A, Colombia's top-flight football league. The season started on 1 February and ended on 20 December 1998. Deportivo Cali were the champions, clinching their seventh domestic league title after beating Once Caldas in the finals. América de Cali were the defending champions, but placed third in their semifinal group and thus failed to qualify for the final stage of the competition. Format The competition returned to its usual calendar year system, following the year-and-a-half tournament played in 1996–97 Categoría Primera A season, 1996–97, and was split into four stages: the Apertura and Finalización tournaments, the semifinals, and the finals. The Categoría Primera A (), commonly referred to as Liga BetPlay Dimayor due to Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is a professional association football league in Colombia and the highest level of the Colombian football league system. A total of twenty clubs compete in the league's regular season. Cortuluá, officially named Cortuluá Fútbol Club S. A. and previously known as Corporación Club Deportivo Tuluá for short, was a Colombian football club from Tuluá, Valle del Cauca Department. Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero
The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Cali, Colombia. The stadium is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". Corporación Deportiva de la Costa, better known as Deportivo Unicosta or Unicosta, was a professional Colombian football club based in Barranquilla, that played in the Categoría Primera A until its 1998 season.
