1997–98 Standard Bank International One-Day Series
The Standard Bank International Series was the name of the One Day International cricket tournament in South Africa for the 1997-98 South African cricket season, 1997-98 season. It was a tri-nation series between South Africa national cricket team, South Africa, Pakistan national cricket team, Pakistan and Sri Lanka national cricket team, Sri Lanka. South Africa booked a slot into the Final through winning five matches out of the six they played. The slot for the second finalist was decided in the last league match between South Africa and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka had to beat South Africa to qualify. When they were beaten, Pakistan and Sri Lanka tied on points. Pakistan qualified for the Final by having a better head-to-head record against Sri Lanka, having won two and lost one of the matches between the two teams. Pakistani Cricket Team In South Africa In 1997–98
The Pakistan national cricket team toured South Africa during the 1997–98 season, playing three Tests from 14 February to 10 March 1998. Pakistan was led by Rashid Latif while South Africa was led by Hansie Cronje. The tour began with a Test series consisting of three matches. Both captains had to withdraw from part of the Test series with injury. The series was drawn 1–1. At the end of the series, Azhar Mahmood of Pakistan emerged as the top run-scorer with 327 runs, with an Batting average (cricket), average of 65.40; Saeed Anwar followed close behind with 236 runs. Waqar Younis and Allan Donald finished the series as top wicket-takers capturing 16 wickets respectively, with Mushtaq Ahmed (cricketer), Mushtaq Ahmed taking 13.
