1997–98 ISL Season
The 1997–98 Ice Hockey Superleague season was the second season of the Ice Hockey Superleague (ISL). There were no changes in the teams taking part during the season – Ayr Scottish Eagles, Basingstoke Bison, Bracknell Bees, Cardiff Devils, Manchester Storm, Newcastle Cobras, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers. The league season was reduced to twenty-eight rounds in the hope of organising a European tournament. However, this failed to materialise so the league arranged a new cup competition to meet the shortfall in fixtures. With the sponsorship of the '' Daily Express'' newspaper the Express Cup was launched. Ayr Scottish Eagles won a Grand Slam of all available trophies. Ice Hockey

British National League (1996–2005)
The British National League (BNL) was the second tier of the professional ice hockey league in the United Kingdom between 1996 and 2005. Although no formal promotion and relegation existed during its period of existence, it was considered to have been a standard below that of the Ice Hockey Superleague (later replaced by the Elite Ice Hockey League) and above that of the English National Ice Hockey League and the Scottish National League (and later, following its creation, the English Premier Ice Hockey League). Fife Flyers and Guildford Flames were the only two teams to consistently feature in the BNL during every season of the league's history. Stephen Cooper (born 11 November 1966) is a retired British ice hockey player. He is a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame and is the older brother of fellow Hall of Fame member, Ian Cooper. Alan Weeks Trophy
The Alan Weeks Trophy is awarded to the Best British Defenceman in the British Ice Hockey Leagues as voted by Ice Hockey Journalists UK. The award is named after Alan Weeks who was a BBC Commentator for 45 years and Chairman of the Brighton Tigers ice hockey club from 1946 until 1965. The trophy was first awarded in 1989 when it was won by Paul Hand of the Murrayfield Racers. Player Of The Year Trophy (IHJUK)
The Player of the Year Trophy is an award given by Ice Hockey Journalists UK (formally the British Ice Hockey Writers Association) to the MVP in the Elite League and the English Premier League at the end of each season. In previous seasons it has been awarded to players in the British Hockey League's Premier and First Divisions, the Super League and the British National League. The trophy was first awarded in 1985. Tony Hand has won the trophy the most times, with a total of six awards. Steve Moria has won three times. Rick Fera, Mark Morrison, Scott Morrison, Lukas Smital and Randy Smith have each won the trophy on two occasions. Jim Lynch (born ) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player and coach who played for Fife Flyers, Murrayfield Racers, Solihull Barons, Humberside Seahawks and coached Ayr Scottish Eagles in the United Kingdom. Peterborough Pirates
The Peterborough Pirates were an English ice hockey team. It was established in 1982, as the senior adult semi-professional team of the newly formed Peterborough Ice Hockey Club. ''The Pirates'', based at the East of England Ice Rink, Peterborough, played in the British National League. Their logo was a copy of the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL. A notable former player was Garry Unger, who previously played in the National Hockey League. During the 1986–87 season he played 30 games scoring 95 goals and 143 assists. Slough Jets
Slough Jets are an ice hockey team from Slough, Berkshire, England playing in the NIHL South Division 1. The team was founded in 1986 after the construction of the Slough Ice Arena in Montem Lane in Slough and joined the first division of the British League. With the help of Gary Stefan who had previously been with Streatham Redskins, the Slough Jets were formed. The Slough Jets are one of the few clubs in the UK who from their foundation have continued to play to the present day without interruption or a change of name. Paisley Pirates
The Paisley Pirates were founded in 1946 and are one of the oldest ice hockey clubs in Scotland and the UK (the oldest being the Fife Flyers). The Pirates were the epitome of the game in Scotland during the 1950s. In season 1953–54 they won the Autumn Cup, the Scottish Cup and the Canada Cup. Their success brought them to the British National League, but local supporters could ill afford to travel to Southern England and gradually support waned. Both Pirates' junior team, Paisley Wildcats, followed by the Pirates themselves were dissolved. The Paisley Mohawks replaced them, but could not generate the enthusiasm of the Pirates.
