Express FC
Express Football Club, abbreviated as Express, is a Ugandan football club from Kampala, the largest city and capital of Uganda. The club play their home games at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium. History Express FC is popularly referred to by the club fans as the Red Eagles and has also been known as the Express Sports Club. The club is one of the oldest football clubs in Uganda, having been founded in October 1957 by managers of the Uganda Express Newspapers. The main architect of the club's foundation was Jolly Joe Kiwanuka, the owner of the newspaper, who was ably supported by Paul Ssengendo, Hannington Kiwanuka, Dr. Banabas Kiwanuka, Gaster Nsubuga and Bishop Dr. Dunstan Nsubuga. The Red Eagles were among the first Ugandan clubs to use football boots and since the club was revived in 1979 they have ever been relegated from the top tier league. Overview The competition was known as the Kakungulu Cup and concluded on 2 November 1996 at Jinja where Uganda Electricity Board FC beat Nile Breweries FC 1-0 in the final. Quarter-finals The 4 matches in this round were played between 7 October and 21 October 1996. Semi-finals The semi-finals were played on 23 and 24 October 19961. 1998 Uganda Cup was the 24th season of the main Ugandan football Cup. Overview The competition was known as the Kakungulu Cup and was won by SC Villa who beat SC Simba 2-0 in the final. Hassan Mubiru scored a brace for SC Villa dribbling past Fred Kajoba the Express keeper on two occasions and finishing clinically. The Uganda Cup is Uganda's main national cup competition in football. This annual competition is open for member clubs of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations. The Uganda Cup is the second most prestigious competition in Uganda football. It is played on a knock out basis. This annual competition is open for non league sides, registered clubs playing in all the five football divisions (Div I, II, III, IV and V) of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Background The Uganda Cup was first held in 1971. The current holders are BUL FC who won the cup by defeating VIPERS SC 3-1 on 12 June 2022 in Masindi district.
