1997 Skate America
The 1997 Skate America was the first event of six in the 1997–98 ISU Champions Series, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on October 23–25. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The junior-level equivalent is the ISU Junior Grand Prix. 1997–98 Champions Series Final
The 1997–98 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, ISU Champions Series Final was an elite figure skating competition held in Munich, Germany from December 18 through 20, 1997. Medals were awarded in single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The Champions Series Final was the culminating event of the ISU Champions Series, which consisted of Skate America, Skate Canada International, Bofrost Cup on Ice, Nations Cup, Trophée Lalique, Cup of Russia, and NHK Trophy competitions. The top six skaters from each discipline competed in the final. Tara Lipinski
Tara Kristen Lipinski (born June 10, 1982) is an American former competitive figure skater, actress, sports commentator and documentary film producer. A former competitor in women's singles, she is the 1998 Olympic champion, the 1997 World champion, a two-time Champions Series Final champion (1997–1998) and the 1997 U.S. national champion. Until 2019, she was the youngest single skater to win a U.S. Nationals and the youngest to become an Olympic and World champion in figure skating history. She is the first woman to complete a triple loop-triple loop jump combination, her signature jump element, in competition. He is a two-time (2001, 2003) European bronze medalist, the 2000 Trophée Lalique silver medalist, and a two-time (2000, 2001) French national champion. Gabriel Monnier (born 10 May 1977) is a French former competitive figure skater. He is the 2002 French national champion and won four senior international medals. He reached the free skate at four ISU Championships, achieving his best result, 10th, at the 2002 Europeans in Lausanne. Personal life Monnier was born 10 May 1977 in Paris. Michael Chack
Michael Chack (born August 25, 1971) is an American former competitive figure skater. He won gold medals at four senior international events, Nebelhorn Trophy, Karl Schäfer Memorial, Piruetten, and Winter Universiade, and one bronze, at the 1994 Trophée de France. Chack also won one senior national medal, bronze at the 1993 U.S. Championships. After his performance was skipped by the broadcaster, his surname became part of figure skating's colloquial vocabulary, e.g. "to chack" meaning to omit a good performance from a television broadcast. Scott Davis (born January 29, 1972) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time (1993–94) U.S. national champion and represented the United States at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where he placed 8th. Career Davis began his career when he won the U.S. junior national title during the 1989–90 season and began competing on the senior level nationally the following season.
