The 1997 Pilot Pen International was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Connecticut in the United States and was part of the Championship Series of the 1997 ATP Tour. It was the 25th edition of the tournament and ran from August 11 through August 17, 1997. First-seeded Yevgeni Kafelnikov won the singles title. ATP International Series Gold
International Series Gold (previously known as the Championship Series) was a series of professional tennis tournaments held internationally between 2000 and 2008 that were part of the ATP Tour. The tournaments were positioned below the ATP Masters Series, and above the ATP International Series in terms of prize money and ranking points available. International Series Gold tournaments offered players cash prizes (purses from $755,000 to $1,426,250 as of 2008) and the ability to earn ATP ranking points. Volvo International
The Volvo International, also known as the Pilot Pen International, was a professional tennis tournament played on clay courts from 1973 to 1984 and on outdoor hard courts from 1985 to 1998. It was first held at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire in the United States in 1973 after Rod Laver had run a successful summer camp there. The International was originally part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit until the formation of the ATP Tour in 1990, when it became part of the Championship Series until its dissolution. The event moved to several American locations during its run, including Mount Cranmore in North Conway, New Hampshire, from 1975 to 1984, Stratton Mountain Resort at Stratton Mountain, Vermont, from 1985 to 1989, and eventually to New Haven, Connecticut from 1990 until 1998, before it was discontinued. Alex O'Brien
Alex O'Brien (born ) is an American former doubles world No. 1 tennis player. He gained the top ranking in May 2000 and was ranked as high as world No. 30 in singles in June 1997. He won his only singles title at New Haven, Connecticut, in 1996 and reached the quarterfinals of the 1994 Cincinnati Masters and the 1996 Canada Masters. Patrick Michael Rafter (born 28 December 1972) is an Australian former world No. 1 tennis player. He reached the top Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles ranking on 26 July 1999. It is typically made of rigid materials such as asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Leander Paes
Leander Adrian Paes ( ; born 17 June 1973) is an Indian former professional tennis player. He is regarded as one of the greatest doubles tennis players ever. He holds the record for the most doubles wins in the Davis Cup. Paes won eight men's doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles.
