1997 Big 12 Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1997 Big 12 Conference baseball tournament was the first in Big 12 history, and the only one to be held at All Sports Stadium in Oklahoma City, OK from May 15 through 18. Oklahoma won the inaugural tournament and earned the Big 12 Conference's automatic bid to the 1997 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The format followed that used by the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship at the time: a six-team, double-elimination tournament. Double Elimination Tournament
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of bracket (tournament), brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. The first-round winners proceed into the W bracket and the losers proceed into the L bracket. Corey Hart (baseball Player)
Jon Corey Hart (born March 24, 1982) is an American former professional baseball right fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2004 through 2013, the Seattle Mariners in 2014 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. Hart was a two-time MLB All-Star, and also participated in the MLB Home Run Derby. High school career Prior to being drafted in the 11th round of the 2000 MLB Draft, Hart played for the Greenwood High School Gators in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Hart also played basketball for four years for the Gators for Coach Jason Couch. On the diamond, he played nearly every position, routinely in the middle infield and even pitching in relief for Coach Chris Decker. Hart's jersey is retired by Greenwood and hangs from the rafters in the school's gymnasium. Hart played American Legion Baseball and was named the program's Graduate of the Year for 2011.
