1996 World Indoor Bowls Championship
The 1996 Churchill Insurance World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Preston Guild Hall, Preston, Lancashire, Preston, England, from 11–24 February 1996. David Gourlay won the title beating Hugh Duff in the final. Ian Schuback and Kelvin Kerkow won the Pairs title. The Women's World Championship took place in Guernsey from April 20–21. The event was won by Sandy Hazell. Winners Draw and results Men's singles Notes + Margaret Johnston & Joyce Lindores were invited to play in the Men's Singles event. Mark McMahon formerly of Hong Kong switched nations to represent Australia. Greg Harlow
Greg Harlow (born 6 July 1968) is an English international indoor bowls player. Bowls career World Indoor Championships Born in Ely, Greg Harlow rose to the world ranking of number one indoors during 2006. Despite being world number one it was not until 2007 that he won his first title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships. That victory was the mixed pairs at the 2007 World Indoor Bowls Championship with Jo Morris. His finest moment arrived when winning the 2010 World Indoor Bowls Championship where he defeated Stewart Anderson of Scotland in the final. A third title was won when he won the men's pairs with Nick Brett at the 2014. He repeated the success of winning the pairs with Brett again, when they won the 2020 World Indoor Bowls Championship open pairs title. Mark McMahon is a Scottish born indoor and lawn bowls player, who has represented England, Hong Kong and Australia at international level. Bowls Outdoors He has had a nomadic career being born in Scotland but representing Hong Kong until 1995 and then England and Australia at international level. He represented Hong Kong at three Commonwealth Games in 1986, 1990 and 1994 with his greatest achievement being a silver medal in the singles at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand. He won five medals at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships representing Hong Kong, they were four silver medals and one bronze medal from 1989 to 1993. Gary Andrew Smith (born 13 October 1958) is a former English lawn and indoor bowler and is the Chief Executive of World Bowls. He is not to be confused with the Durham indoor bowler Gary R Smith. Bowls career Smith partnered Andy Thomson when they won the 1993 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs. He started playing at the age of 15 and played for the Blackheath and Greenwich bowls clubs and the Cyphers indoor club at Beckenham. Smith also won the EIBA Pairs in 1986, 1991 & 1994 and Fours in 1983, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1992 & 1993. In 1988 he experienced Singles success after winning the EIBA Singles and one year later captured the 1988 CIS Insurance UK singles title. Martyn Roberts (bowls)
Martyn Roberts (born 1965 or 1966) is a New Zealand lighting and set designer and photographer, and founder of the arts collective afterburner theatre productions. Roberts has won 14 theatre awards. The afterburner production ''Dark Matter,'' conceived and created by Roberts won Best of Fringe at the 2017 NZ Fringe Festival Awards. Background Roberts grew up in Wellington. He went on a PEP Scheme ( Project Employment Programme) after school and worked with a theatre troupe in Northland. He then enrolled in a master's degree in theatre at Victoria University of Wellington and began working in lighting design in the mid-1990s.
