1996 U.S. Open Cup
The 1996 United States Open Cup was the 83rd edition of the tournament, and the first Open Cup to include Major League Soccer teams. D.C. United defeated the Rochester Raging Rhinos 3–0 in the final at RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C. Originally, four of the ten MLS teams entered the tournament. Five ended up participating, as D.C. United replaced the Los Angeles Galaxy (due to the Galaxy's congested schedule), and the Colorado Rapids replaced the Colorado Foxes (when the team could not reschedule its third-round match against Kansas City). The A-League Rochester side beat two MLS teams en route to the final before falling to already-crowned MLS Cup champion United. Rochester Rhinos
Rochester Rhinos, formerly known as the Rochester Raging Rhinos, was an American soccer team based in Rochester, New York, United States. The club won the 1999 U.S. Open Cup, marking the only time a non-MLS team has won the U.S. Open Cup since MLS started play in 1996. Founded in 1996 as the Rochester Raging Rhinos, they changed their name to Rochester Rhinos to start the 2008 season. The club began a four-year hiatus after the 2017 USL season in the second tier of the United States soccer league system. The team then rebranded as Rochester New York FC and played its first and only season in MLS Next Pro in 2022, but departed before the beginning of the 2023 season. The club was affiliated with the youth club Empire United Soccer Academy, which rebranded as Rochester New York FC Youth and continues to operate as a separate club. David Beall
David Beall is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in the Continental Indoor Soccer League and USISL. Beall attended the University of San Diego, playing on the men's soccer team from 1990 to 1993. In 1994, Beall signed with the San Diego Sockers of the Continental Indoor Soccer League. On February 7, 1996, the Los Angeles Galaxy selected Beall in the fourteenth round (134th overall) of the 1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft. The Galaxy released him late in the pre-season. Kevin Sloan is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the American Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. He has also coached professionally and is the former head coach of the Neumann College men's soccer team. Scott Schweitzer
Scott Schweitzer (born August 12, 1971) is an American soccer coach and former player. He spent two years as the head coach of Carolina RailHawks FC. College soccer Schweitzer was born in Rahway, New Jersey. He was a four-year letter winner at N.C. State University. He was a two-time All-American (second team in 1991 and first team in 1992) and named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1992. He was a member of the Wolfpack team that made it to the 1990 NCAA Final Four. Schweitzer was also a member of the U.S. World University Games Team from 1992 to 1994. Charles Adair (soccer)
Charles "Chugger" Adair (born August 11, 1971) is an American former soccer player and current soccer coach. He spent two seasons in the Continental Indoor Soccer League, two in the National Professional Soccer League and seven in the USISL A-League / USL First Division. Early life and education Adair grew up in Chula Vista where he played soccer as a youth. When he was five, he underwent open heart surgery. Adair attended Hilltop High School. He was inducted into the Hilltop Hall of Fame in 2001. In 1989, he entered San Diego State University where he played one season with the men's soccer team. He then transferred to the University of San Diego and played with the Toreros for three seasons. The United States Interregional Soccer League (USISL) was a semi-professional men's outdoor soccer league that played six seasons from 1989 to 1994.
