1996 Swedish Speedway Season
The 1996 Swedish speedway season was the 1996 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1996 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Orionparken in Hallstavik on 24 August. Jimmy Nilsen won the Swedish Championship. U21 Championship Emil Lindqvist won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Örnarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the fourth time. The Örnarna team included Peter Karlsson, Kelvin Tatum, Mikael Karlsson and Niklas Klingberg. Leading positions in Division 1 North & South groups determined Division 1A & 1B leagues. Vargarna and Getingarna won the first division leagues respectively. The 1995 Swedish speedway season was the 1995 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1995 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held at the Kumla Motorstadion in Kumla on 2 September. Henrik Gustafsson won the Swedish Championship. U21 Championship Robert Eriksson won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Rospiggarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the first time in their history. The Rospiggarna team included Greg Hancock, Erik Stenlund and Jason Crump. Dackarna won the first division, while Karlstad and Njudungarna won the second division A and B respectively. Three more teams introduced reserve teams called Wisby (Bysarna), Buddys (Team Viking) and Göteborg (Kaparna). Rospiggarna
Rospiggarna is a motorcycle speedway team based in Hallstavik, Sweden. The club was founded in 1930 and were named ''Orion'', although it did not compete in the Swedish speedway leagues until 1966. The club joined the Swedish Division Three in 1966 and the team name was changed to ''Stjärnorna'' (English: The Stars). In 1978 the name was changed again to Rospiggarna which is the demonym for people from Roslagen, where Hallstavik is situated. Vargarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Norrköping, Sweden. The team race at the Norrköpings Motorstadion. Kelvin Tatum
Kelvin Martin Tatum MBE (born 8 February 1964, in Epsom, Surrey) is a former British international motorcycle speedway and grasstrack rider. Career Tatum attended Brighton College from 1977 to 1980. He started riding speedway bikes at Hackney's training school at Hackney Wick Stadium in the winter of 1982-83. He was given his first team place at Hackney's London rivals, Wimbledon Dons, riding in the top flight British League in 1983. He finished the season with an average of over six points per meeting. In 1985 he signed for Coventry Bees, staying there for the next six seasons. Stints then followed at Berwick Bandits, Bradford Dukes, Arena Essex Hammers, Poole Pirates, Peterborough Panthers and the ill-fated London Lions, with brother Neville Tatum among his teammates. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play off.
