1996 Republika Srpska General Election
General elections were held for the first time in Republika Srpska on 14 September 1996. They were the first direct elections in Republika Srpska since its proclamation in 1992 and Bosnian War that ended in 1995. Previous National Assembly was created in 1991 and was made up of Serb MPs that were elected to the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliament following 1990 Bosnian general election. Presidential election were held simultaneously because incumbent President Radovan Karadžić resigned in 1996 due to international pressure. Biljana Plavšić, who succeeded Karadžić as Srpska's president, won absolute majority of votes, with Bosniak Adib Đozić finishing as runner-up. 1998 Republika Srpska General Election
General elections were held in Republika Srpska on 12 and 13 September 1998. They were third parliamentary election and second presidential election in three years. Incumbent president Biljana Plavšić, who served since July 1996 after Radovan Karadžić resigned, lost to Nikola Poplašen, leader of the Serbian Radical Party of Republika Srpska. Mirko Šarović was elected Vice President. In the parliamentary election, the Serb Democratic Party again won the most seats, but failed to form a government. Although newly elected President Poplašen tried to name SDS leader Dragan Kalinić as the new Prime Minister, he faced opposition from High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Carlos Westendorp and was deposed shortly after. Republika Srpska ( sr-Cyrl, Република Српска, lit=Serb Republic, also known as Republic of Srpska, ) is one of the two Political divisions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other being the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dragan Đokanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Драган Ђокановић; born 20 April 1958) is a Bosnian Serb politician, member, founder and president of the Democratic Party of Federalists, physician, sportsman and one of the most popular men in history of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the research of The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Biography Born on 20 April 1958, Đokanović completed all of his formal schooling in his hometown of Sarajevo, including university and medical school. Serb Democratic Party (Bosnia And Herzegovina)
The Serb Democratic Party ( sr, Српска демократска странка/Srpska demokratska stranka or СДС/SDS) is a Serb political party in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its current acting president is Milan Miličević. In the parliamentary elections of October 2006, the SDS lost its status as the leading party in Republika Srpska and the main Serb party in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), led by the president of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik. Despite making minor gains in the 2010 and 2014 elections, by 2018 the party had fallen to below 20% of the parliament, the lowest seat standing in its history. The party is under sanctions from the United States for "failing to arrest and turn over war crimes suspects to an international tribunal." Radovan Karadžić
Radovan Karadžić ( sr-cyr, Радован Караџић, ; born 19 June 1945) is a Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnian Serb politician, psychiatrist and poet. He was convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). He was the president of Republika Srpska during the Bosnian War.
