1996 Malta Masters
The 1996 Malta Masters was a non-ranking invitational snooker tournament which took place in May 1996. The tournament was held at the Jerma Palace Hotel in Marsaskala Marsaskala, sometimes written as Marsascala is a seaside town in the Southern Region, Malta, Southern Region of Malta. Originally a fishing village, it has grown into a tourist destination and a permanent hometown for an ever-growing population. ..., and featured twelve professional players, alongside four amateurs - Malta's Tony Brincat, Jason Pelow and Kevin d'Agostino, and Amnuayporn Chotipong of Thailand. Jerma Palace Hotel
The Jerma Palace Hotel is a former four-star hotel in Marsaskala, Malta. It was opened as a Libyan investment in 1982, and was managed by Corinthia Hotels International. It was the largest hotel in southern Malta until it closed down in 2007. The building was subsequently abandoned, and it has since fallen into a state of disrepair. Plans to demolish the former hotel began in 2016. History Jerma Palace Hotel (1982-2007) The Jerma Palace Hotel was built on a headland called ''il-Ħamrija'', close to the 17th-century Saint Thomas Tower. The land originally belonged to Franciscan Conventuals and Ivan Burridge, who sold it to San Tumas Holdings. In 1976, San Tumas sold the plot to the Libyan Foreign Investment Company. The Jerma Palace Hotel was subsequently built, and it was opened in 1982. The hotel was managed by Corinthia Hotels International through a management agreement. Barry Pinches
Barry Pinches (born 13 July 1970 in Catton, Norwich) is an English former professional snooker player, recognisable for his bright and flamboyant waistcoats, which usually feature the yellow and green colours of Norwich City F.C. He is a former top 32 player and ranking-event quarter-finalist. He has compiled over 100 century breaks in his career. He has also made one maximum break. Career Pinches was born on 13 July 1970. He won the English Amateur Championship in 1988, enabling him to turn professional in 1989. He was runner-up to James Wattana at the 1988 World Amateur Championship. Robin Hull (born 16 August 1974) is a Finnish former professional snooker player. For some time, he was the sole Nordic countries, Nordic player on the game's Snooker world rankings, main tour. He is known as a solid -builder, having compiled over 150 competitive during his career, among the highest for a player who has never featured in the top 16 in the world rankings. Tony Drago ( ; born 22 September 1965) is a Maltese former professional snooker and pool player. Known for his speed around the table, during his snooker career he won two professional titles: the 1993 Strachan Challenge Event 3 and the 1996 Guangzhou Masters. He later switched his focus to pool and won the 2003 World Pool Masters beating Hsia Hui-kai 8–6 and the 2008 Predator International 10-ball Championship beating Francisco Bustamante 13–10. Patrick Wallace
Patrick Wallace (born 20 September 1969) is a former professional snooker player from Dungannon in Northern Ireland. During his career, which lasted seventeen years from 1994 to 2011, he won two non-ranking titles and was a quarter-finalist in the 2001 World Championship. He attained his highest world ranking, 34th, for the 2001–02 season, but dropped off the main tour several times, latterly in 2011. Thereafter Wallace retired as a professional and resumed his career at amateur level for a number of years. His nine wins in the Northern Ireland Amateur Championship are a record. Marsaskala, sometimes written as Marsascala is a seaside town in the Southern Region, Malta, Southern Region of Malta. Originally a fishing village, it has grown into a tourist destination and a permanent hometown for an ever-growing population. The parish church, built in 1953, is dedicated to Saint Anne and Marsaskala's feast is celebrated at the end of July. Name and etymology The name of the town is also written as Marsascala in old ortography, and often abbreviated as M'Skala. It is a composite name derived from Arabic. Alex Borg
Alex Borg (born 5 June 1969) is a Maltese former professional snooker player. Borg currently resides in Mellieha, Malta. Career Borg first turned professional in 1991, and regularly appeared as a wild card in the Malta Grand Prix, where throughout the event's history he defeated players including Nigel Bond and John Higgins. His best performances were reaching the semi-final in 1997 and 1998. He also competed as a wild card in the Malta Cup. However, in ranking events he has not had such success, his best finish being to the last 64, he has achieved this on three occasions, all in the Grand Prix. He has won the EBSA European Snooker Championships twice, the first in 2005 where he beat Kristján Helgason 7–2 in the final, and the following year when he beat Jeff Cundy 7–5.
