1996 Donegal North–East By-election
A by-election was held in the Dáil Éireann Donegal North-East (Dáil constituency), Donegal North-East constituency in Republic of Ireland, Ireland on 2 April 1996. It followed the death of Independent Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) and former Government of Ireland, Minister Neil Blaney on 8 November 1995. The election was won by Donegal County Councillor Cecilia Keaveney of Fianna Fáil. The 1992 Irish general election to the 27th Dáil was held on Wednesday, 25 November, almost three weeks after the Dissolution of Parliament, dissolution of the 26th Dáil on 5 November by President of Ireland, President Mary Robinson, on the request of Taoiseach Albert Reynolds following a defeat of the government in a Confidence motions in Dáil Éireann, motion of confidence. The general election took place in 41 Dáil constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the house of representatives of the Oireachtas, under a revision in the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1990.
