The 1995 Gent–Wevelgem was the 57th edition of the Gent–Wevelgem cycle race and was held on 5 April 1995. The race started in Ghent and finished in Wevelgem. Lars Michaelsen
Lars Michaelsen (born 13 March 1969) is a Danish former professional road bicycle racer who last rode for Team CSC. He got his break through in his second year as a professional, when he won the 1995 edition of Gent–Wevelgem. In the 1997 Vuelta a España he won stage 1 and wore the leader's jersey for three days (stage 2, 3 and 5). In 2002 he finished fifth in Paris–Roubaix, a result he would duplicate in 2005. In the 2006 Paris–Roubaix he was once again in the group of favourites, but he helped teammate Fabian Cancellara win the race and finished 19th himself. In his last race, the 2007 Paris–Roubaix, he finished 11th after a strong race, where only a mechanical failure prevented him from following the favorites. Again a teammate, Stuart O'Grady, won the race. Michaelsen rode at four Olympic Games. After retiring he became a directeur sportif, continuing with his final team until 2011 when he joined . Mario Cipollini (; born 22 March 1967), often abbreviated to Cipo, is a retired Italian professional road cyclist most noted for his sprinting ability, the longevity of his dominance (his first pro win came in 1988, his last in 2005; 170 professional wins, 192 including criteriums), and his colourful personality. Erik Zabel
Erik Zabel (; born 7 July 1970) is a German former professional road bicycle racer who raced for most of his career with Team Telekom. With 152 professional wins and 211 wins in his career, he is considered by some to be one of the greatest German cyclists and cycling sprinters of all time. Zabel won a record nine points classifications in Grand Tour (cycling), grands tours including the points classification in the Tour de France six consecutive years between 1996 and 2001 and the points classification in the Vuelta a España in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Zabel won the Milan–San Remo four times and numerous six-day track events. He was one of the few road cyclists of recent times who raced all year, including track cycling in winter. Wilfried Nelissen
Wilfried Nelissen (born 5 May 1970) is a Belgian former road racing cyclist, who specialised as a sprinter. Nelissen took over 50 professional wins in his career, including a stage of the 1993 Tour de France and the Omloop Het Volk in 1993 and 1994, in addition to two national road race championships. He was involved in a crash at the end of stage 1 of the 1994 Tour de France, when he collided with a policeman. The incident also involved French rider Laurent Jalabert. Nelissen retired in 1998 due to a knee injury that he suffered in 1996 after falling during the Gent–Wevelgem race. Zbigniew Spruch
Zbigniew Spruch (born 13 December 1965) is a Polish former professional road bicycle racer. He won the 1995 Tour de Pologne, Tour de Pologne in 1995 and placed second at the 2000 UCI Road World Championships. Spruch had was a professional cyclist for 12 year's, starting at the team in 1992 with a two year stint at for 1997 & 1998. He then finished his career back at the newly founded squad. Spruch only achieved three professional wins in his career but amassed over 120 amateur victories. Career Spurch won the Overall at the 1995 Tour de Pologne, however at the time the race was for amateurs unlike in the 2020's where it is a UCI WorldTour event. At the 1999 Tirreno–Adriatico Spruch came close to his third professional win when favorites for the stage Nicola Minali and Mario Cipollini crashed in the final 75 metres. Giovanni Lombardi (cyclist)
Giovanni Lombardi (born 20 June 1969) is an Italian former professional road bicycling racer who raced from 1992 to 2006. He started his career as a sprinter, winning multiple stages in the Giro d'Italia. He went on to ride as an important helper for the top sprinter names of Erik Zabel and Mario Cipollini. Most recently, he rode for Team CSC as a helper for Ivan Basso. Lombardi was also an active track racer during wintertime, and has participated in many six-day races, frequently as a partner of Marco Villa. He also competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal at the latter. Biography Lombardi was born in Pavia (Lombardy). Festina was a former professional cycling team that was active in the professional peloton from 1989 to 2001. The team was sponsored by the Swiss watch manufacturer of the same name. Maurizio Fondriest (born 15 January 1965) is a retired Italian professional road racing cyclist. Career Born in Cles, Trentino, Fondriest turned professional in 1987 with the Ecoflam team. He subsequently rode for Alfa-Lum in 1988, winning the World Cycling Championships along with stages in the Tour de Suisse and Tirreno–Adriatico. Wevelgem () is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality located in the Belgium, Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Gullegem, Moorsele and Wevelgem proper.
