Brendan Graham
Brendan Graham (born 12 February 1945) is an Irish songwriter and novelist. Among songs he has written are " Rock 'n' Roll Kids" (1994) and " The Voice" (1996), both of which won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland in their respective years, and "You Raise Me Up" (2002), which was an international hit recorded by various artists, including Josh Groban. Early life Graham was born in Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland. Songwriting Brendan Graham is one of Ireland's most famous lyricists and songwriters. In an article about the song tradition of Ireland, Con Houlihan wrote, "Some of the best poetry being produced in this country today is in the form of song – Christy Moore and Brendan Graham and Jimmy McCarthy are touched by genius." In a feature article, the ''Irish Times'' described Graham as a 'Musical Midas in the Mayo Silence.' Graham wrote the lyrics for the 2002 song, "You Raise Me Up". Special Broadcasting Service
The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) is an Australian hybrid-funded public broadcasting, public service broadcaster. About 80 percent of funding for the company is derived from tax revenue. SBS operates six TV channels (SBS (Australian TV channel), SBS, SBS Viceland, SBS World Movies, SBS Food, NITV and SBS WorldWatch) and seven radio networks (SBS Radios 1, 2 and 3, Arabic24, SBS Chill, SBS South Asian and SBS PopAsia). Glenroe
''Glenroe'' is an Irish television soap opera broadcast on RTÉ One for 18 years between September 1983 and May 2001. ''Glenroe was'' centred on the lives of the people living in the fictional rural village of the same name in County Wicklow. The real-life village of Kilcoole was used to film the series. The series was also filmed in studio at RTÉ and in various other locations when directors saw fit. The show was a spin-off from ''Bracken'' — an RTÉ drama that was broadcast from 1980-1982, which was itself spun off from '' The Riordans'' — another RTÉ drama that was broadcast from 1965-1979. ''Glenroe'' was broadcast, generally from September to May, each Sunday at 8:30 pm. Bananas In Pyjamas
''Bananas in Pyjamas'' is an Australian children's television series that first aired on 20 July 1992 on ABC. It has since been syndicated in many countries and dubbed into other languages. In the United States, the " Pyjamas" in the title was modified to reflect the American spelling ''pajamas''. It aired in syndication from 1995 to 1997 as a half-hour series, then became a 15-minute show paired with a short-lived 15-minute series '' The Crayon Box'', under a 30-minute block produced by Sachs Family Entertainment titled ''Bananas in Pajamas & The Crayon Box''. Additionally, the characters and a scene from the show were featured in the ''Kids for Character'' sequel titled ''Kids for Character: Choices Count''. The pilot episode was ''Pink Mug''. Gay Byrne
Gabriel Mary Byrne (5 August 1934 – 4 November 2019) was an Irish presenter and host of radio and television. His most notable role was as the first host of '' The Late Late Show'' over a 37-year period spanning 1962 until 1999. ''The Late Late Show'' is the world's longest-running live chat show. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Gay", "Gaybo" or "Uncle Gaybo". His time working in Britain with Granada Television saw him become the first person to introduce the Beatles on-screen, and Byrne was later the first to introduce Boyzone on-screen in 1993. According to Byrne, Paul McCartney asked him to be the Beatles' agent during a sound check for his show but he declined the offer. The People In Need Trust
The People in Need Trust was a charity in Ireland. It was deregistered in 2016. Its main fundraiser, the RTÉ People in Need Telethon, was broadcast by RTÉ from 1989 until 2007 and supported by Eircom (formerly Telecom Éireann), raising more than €35 million in total. The theme tune was " Come On Everybody" by Eddie Cochran. As with ''The Late Late Toy Show'', Gay Byrne presented it wearing distinctive knitted jumpers. Previously there was Self Aid on 17 May 1986 followed by ''Telethon For The Homeless'' on 10 June 1988. The event was replaced by RTÉ Does Comic Relief on 26 June 2020. The Den (Ireland)
''The Den'' was a long-running children's entertainment television programme on Republic of Ireland, Ireland's public broadcaster, RTÉ. First broadcast on 29 September 1986 on RTÉ1, it moved to Network 2 two years later. Initially a continuity strand for weekday afternoon programmes, ''The Den'' later expanded during the late 1990s and the 2000s, until it became synonymous with RTÉ Young People's Programming, RTÉ's children's output. At various times during its run, it was known as ''Dempsey's Den'', ''Den TV'' and ''Den2''. Roddy Doyle
Roderick Doyle (born 8 May 1958) is an Irish novelist, dramatist and screenwriter. He is the author of eleven novels for adults, eight books for children, seven plays and screenplays, and dozens of short stories. Several of his books have been made into films, beginning with ''The Commitments (film), The Commitments'' in 1991. Doyle's work is set primarily in Ireland, especially working-class Dublin, and is notable for its heavy use of dialogue written in slang and Irish English dialect. ''Family'' is a television drama mini-series that aired on RTÉ One and BBC1 in 1994. It was written by Roddy Doyle, the author of '' The Commitments'', and directed by Michael Winterbottom. Premise The show centres on the Spencers, a working-class family living in a vast Dublin housing estate. Charlo, played by Seán McGinley, is the abusive and cheating husband of Paula, played by Ger Ryan. They have four children, teenagers John Paul and Nicola, and younger children Leanne and Jack. There were four episodes, each focusing on a member of the family. ''The Adventures of Blinky Bill'' is an Australian animated television series based on Dorothy Wall's books about Blinky Bill, and is a sequel series to the 1992 film ''Blinky Bill: The Mischievous Koala''. Bill Whelan
William Michael Joseph Whelan (born 22 May 1950) is an Irish composer and musician. He is best known for composing a piece for the interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. The result, "Riverdance", was a seven-minute piece of original music accompanying a new take on traditional Irish stepdance that became a full-length stage production and spawned a worldwide craze for Irish traditional music and dance. The corresponding soundtrack album earned him a Grammy. "Riverdance" was released as a single in 1994, credited to "Bill Whelan and Anúna featuring the RTÉ Concert Orchestra". It reached number one in Ireland for 18 weeks and number nine in the UK. The album of the same title reached number 31 in the album charts in 1995.
