1993 Scottish Challenge Cup Final
The 1993 Scottish Challenge Cup Final, also known as the B&Q Cup Final for sponsorship reasons, was an association football match between Falkirk and St Mirren on 12 December 1993 at Fir Park in Motherwell. It was the fourth final of the Scottish Challenge Cup since it was first organised in 1990 to celebrate the centenary of the Scottish Football League. The match was Falkirk's first national cup final in 36 years since winning the Scottish Cup Final in 1957; whilst it was St Mirren's first in only six years since lifting the Scottish Cup in 1987. The tournament was contested by clubs below the Scottish Premier Division, with both finalists from the First Division. The match was goalless after 45 minutes, but Falkirk took the lead two minutes into the second half with a goal from Neil Duffy and only one minute later were 2–0 up with a goal from Richard Cadette. John Hughes (footballer Born 1964)
John "Yogi" Hughes (born 9 September 1964) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player. Hughes played primarily as a central defender for several clubs, including Falkirk (two spells), Celtic, Hibernian and Ayr United. Towards the end of his playing career, Hughes took on coaching responsibilities, and was appointed manager of Falkirk in 2003 (initially as co-manager with Owen Coyle). Hughes guided the club to promotion to the Scottish Premier League and a Scottish Cup Final during his time in charge. He eventually left Falkirk to take up the managerial role at Hibernian in 2009, but left by mutual consent after sixteen months. Hughes was appointed manager of Livingston in February 2012, but left in November to take over at English club Hartlepool United. Somerset Park
Somerset Park is a football stadium located in Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It has been the home of Ayr United since they were founded in 1910. Prior to that, it was the home ground of Ayr, who merged with Ayr Parkhouse to form Ayr United. History Ayr commissioned Somerset Park in 1888 to replace Beresford Park. Ayr needed an alternative venue for a friendly match against Aston Villa because Beresford Park was being used for the Ayr Cattle Show at the time. The Beresford Park clubhouse and grandstand were dismantled and reassembled at Somerset Park. Ayr entered the Scottish Football League in 1897, but failed to seriously challenge for promotion to the First Division. The Renfrewshire derby is a football derby in Scotland, contested between the senior clubs Greenock Morton and St Mirren. Since the sides first met in 1882, the fixture has grown in significance over the years, due in part to the demise of other Renfrewshire football clubs, and is one of the most hotly contested derbies in Scotland today.
