1993 Matrix Essentials Evert Cup
The 1993 Newsweek Champions Cup and the Matrix Essentials Evert Cup was a combined men's and women's tennis tournaments played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 20th edition of the tournament, and was part of the ATP Super 9 of the 1993 ATP Tour and of the WTA Tier II Series of the 1993 WTA Tour. It was held from February 22 through February 28 (women) and March 1 to March 15, 1993 (men) at the Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells, California in the United States. The PIF ATP rankings are the Association of Tennis Professionals' (ATP) merit-based system for determining the rankings in men's tennis. The top-ranked player is the player who, over the previous 52 weeks, has garnered the most ranking points on the ATP Tour. Points are awarded based on how far a player advances in tournaments and the category of those tournaments. Luke Jensen
Luke Jensen (born June 18, 1966) is an American former professional tennis player and Grand Slam doubles champion. Jensen won the 1993 French Open Doubles title with his younger brother Murphy Jensen. He attended the University of Southern California from 1986–87 and earned singles All-American honors both years (doubles in 1987). He began working for ESPN as a tennis analyst in 1994. Jensen compiled a 106-57 record in seven and a half seasons as the head coach of the Syracuse Orange women's tennis team. Amanda Coetzer (born 22 October 1971, in Hoopstad) is a South African former professional tennis player. Coetzer finished in the WTA rankings top 20 for ten consecutive seasons (1992–2001), peaking at world No. 3. It was the 18th edition of the tournament, and was part of the ATP Super 9 of the 1991 ATP Tour, and of the Tier II Series of the 1991 WTA Tour. It was held from March 2 through March 16, 1991. Wayne Richard Ferreira (born 15 September 1971) is a South African tennis coach and a former professional player. Ferreira won 15 ATP singles titles and 11 doubles titles. His career-high rankings were world No. 6 in singles (in May 1995) and world No. 9 in doubles (in March 2001). Goran Ivanišević (; born 13 September 1971) is a Croatian former professional tennis player and current coach. Petr Korda
Petr Korda (born 23 January 1968) is a Czech former professional tennis player. He was ranked world No. 2 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in February 1998. Korda won ten singles titles, including the 1998 Australian Open, and was the runner-up at the 1992 French Open. Korda tested positive for doping in July 1998 at Wimbledon, and was banned from September 1999 for 12 months, retiring from the sport shortly before the ban.
