1993 International Open
The 1993 International Open (officially the 1993 Sky Sports International Open) was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 2–11 April 1993 at the Plymouth Pavilions in Plymouth, England with TV coverage on Sky Sports beginning on 5 April. It was the first International Open held since 1989 and is now moved to April for this season only as the last ranking tournament before the World Championship. John Virgo
John Trevor Virgo (born 4 March 1946) is an English snooker commentator and former professional snooker player. After turning professional in 1976, Virgo won four professional titles, including the 1979 UK Championship, the 1980 Bombay International and the 1984 Professional Snooker League. A member of the sport's elite Top 16 for seven seasons, Virgo is also a former British Open and World Championship semi-finalist and was runner-up at the 1980 Champion of Champions and the 1984 Australian Masters. Virgo retired from professional snooker in 1994. Virgo has had a successful career working for the BBC, as a co-presenter of Big Break from 19912002, and as a snooker commentator for the channel. Ken Doherty
Kenneth Joseph Doherty (born 17 September 1969) is an Irish professional snooker player who also works as a commentator and pundit on televised snooker broadcasts. From Ranelagh in Dublin, he is the sport's only World Snooker Championship, world champion from the Republic of Ireland, having won the title in 1997, and one of only five players from outside the United Kingdom to have won the title in the modern era. He was the first player to have won the world amateur and world professional title; Doherty was previously world U-21 champion. John Campbell (snooker Player)
John Campbell (born 10 April 1953) is a former Australian professional snooker player. During a career which lasted from 1982 to 1993, he was a quarter-finalist in the 1983 Professional Players Tournament, and won the Australian Professional Championship in 1985 and 1988. Career Campbell was born on 10 April 1953 in Brisbane, and turned professional as a snooker player in 1982. Playing in only one tournament during the 1982/1983 season - the 1983 World Championship, he defeated Mike Watterson 10–6 in the first qualifying round and Jim Donnelly 10–2 in the second, to reach the main stages at the Crucible Theatre. James Wattana
James Wattana (; born January 17, 1970, as วัฒนา ภู่โอบอ้อม ''Wattana Pu-Ob-Orm'', then renamed รัชพล ภู่โอบอ้อม ''Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm'' in 2003) is a Thai former professional snooker player. A professional between 1989 and 2008, and from 2009 to 2020, Wattana reached his highest ranking position – world number 3 – for the 1994–95 season. He has won three ranking tournaments, the 1992 Strachan Open and the Thailand Open in 1994 and 1995, and has finished as the runner-up in a further five ranking events. Stefan Mazrocis
Stefan Mazrocis (born 18 April 1967) is a Dutch-English former professional snooker player. He was born of Latvian and English parentage, and spent his early life in Leicester, England. Career Mazrocis turned professional in 1991. In 1995, he qualified for the main stages of the World Championship at the Crucible Theatre, defeating Lee Walters, Martin Dziewialtowski, Jason Prince, Scott MacFarlane and Mark Bennett; drawn against incumbent champion Stephen Hendry in the last 32, he lost 3–10. Tony Knowles (snooker Player)
Anthony Knowles (born 13 June 1955) is an English former professional snooker player. He won the 1982 International Open and the 1983 Professional Players Tournament, and was a three times semi-finalist in the World Professional Snooker Championship in the 1980s. His highest world ranking was second, in the 1984/85 season. Knowles was the British under-19 snooker champion in 1972 and 1974. He turned professional in 1980, and surprisingly defeated the defending champion Steve Davis 10–1 in the first round of the 1982 World Snooker Championship. In 1984, tabloid stories about his personal life were published, and he was fined £5,000 by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association for bringing the game into disrepute. Jamie Burnett
Jamie Burnett (born 16 September 1975) is a Scottish former professional snooker player from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. A journeyman, Burnett was ranked within the world's top 64 players for 20 consecutive years between 1996 and 2016, reaching his career best ranking, 27th, in 1999. He appeared in one major final, at the 2010 Shanghai Masters, where he lost 10–7 to Ali Carter, and reached the final of one minor-ranking event, the 2012 Gdynia Open, where Neil Robertson beat him 4–3. Terry Griffiths
Terence Martin Griffiths (16October 19471December 2024) was a Welsh professional snooker player, coach and pundit. After winning several amateur titles, including the Welsh Amateur Championship (snooker), Welsh Amateur Championship in 1975 and back-to-back English Amateur Championships in 1977 and 1978, Griffiths turned professional in June 1978 at the age of 30. In his second professional tournament, he qualified for the 1979 World Snooker Championship. He reached the final of the event where he defeated Dennis Taylor by 24 to 16. Joe O'Boye
Joe O’Boye (born 6 March 1960) is an Irish former professional snooker player. He represented the Republic of Ireland at the 1988 Snooker World Cup. He was the winner of the 1980 English Amateur Championship. Career O’Boye had three applications for professional status declined by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association after his 1980 English Amateur Championship victory before they relented and he was accepted. In October 1985 he made his television debut at the 1985 Rothmans Grand Prix held at the Hexagon in Reading against Jimmy White, losing 4-5 but with White winning the last three frames. David Roe
David Roe (born 11 September 1965) is a former English professional snooker player, and a four-time ranking tournament quarter-finalist. Career Roe was born on 11 September 1965 in Derby. He began his professional career for the 1986–87 snooker season after qualifying through the pro-ticket series. In his second professional season he reached the last 32 or better in four tournaments, and a year later he reached the last 16 of the 1989 World Snooker Championship on his debut in the main event, to reach the top 32 of the rankings. He then had two poorer seasons, before two quarter-finals in 1991/1992. A year later he reached the top 16, despite not reaching a quarter-final in that season. Jonathan Birch (snooker Player)
Jonathan Birch (born 15 February 1968) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Born in 1968, Birch turned professional in 1990, and his first season was a successful one; he reached the last 16 of several tournaments, including the 1991 World Masters, where he was defeated 4–7 by Steve Longworth. He was unable to repeat this good form until 1993, when he reached the quarter-final of the 1993 Dubai Classic; there, he beat Mike Hallett, Dennis Taylor and Terry Griffiths en route to being whitewashed 0–5 by Stephen Hendry.
