The 1993 British Open (officially the 1993 Wickes British Open) was a professional ranking snooker tournament, that was held from 22 February to 6 March 1993 at the Assembly Rooms in Derby, England. ITV televised the event from 27 February. Steve Davis won the tournament by defeating James Wattana ten frames to two in the final. Dean Reynolds
Dean Reynolds (born 11 January 1963 in Grimsby) is an English former professional snooker player whose career spanned twenty years from 1981 to 2001. Early and personal life From Grimsby, Reynolds is a left-handed player and started playing snooker at the age of five years-old with his father 'Butch' who was a league standard club player. By the age of 12 years-old, Reynolds was displaying aptitude for the game, and in 1979 he won the Grimsby Boys Championships and the Lincolnshire and South Humberside Junior Championships. Nick Terry (born 15 September 1967) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Terry turned professional in 1988, by defeating Maurice Parkin 10-5 in a play-off, after finishing third in the pro-ticket series. He lost his first professional match, at the 1988 International Open, 2–5 to Colin Roscoe. In his first season, Terry reached the last 32 of the 1989 Classic, where he led Doug Mountjoy 4–3 but lost 4–5. In the 1991–92 season, he reached the last 32 in two events - the 1991 UK Championship, where he lost 7–9 to Neal Foulds having led 5–1 and 6–3, and the 1992 European Open, where Martin Clark defeated him 5–3. Terry Griffiths
Terence Martin Griffiths (16October 19471December 2024) was a Welsh professional snooker player, coach and pundit. After winning several amateur titles, including the Welsh Amateur Championship (snooker), Welsh Amateur Championship in 1975 and back-to-back English Amateur Championships in 1977 and 1978, Griffiths turned professional in June 1978 at the age of 30. In his second professional tournament, he qualified for the 1979 World Snooker Championship. He reached the final of the event where he defeated Dennis Taylor by 24 to 16. John Higgins (born 18 May 1975) is a Scottish professional snooker player from Wishaw in North Lanarkshire. Since turning professional in 1992, he has won 33 ranking titles, placing him in third position on the List of snooker players by number of ranking titles, all-time list of ranking event winners, behind Ronnie O'Sullivan (41) and Stephen Hendry (36). Danny Fowler (born 30 July 1956 in Worksop) is an English former professional snooker player. Early life Danny Fowler was born on 30 July 1956 in Worksop. Fowler played snooker recreationally from the age of 15 to 20, but then stopped playing for several years. He then started playing again, and turned professional in 1984 despite a lack of notable amateur championship success. Before becoming a professional player, he worked as a miner and as a local government waste collector. Alain Robidoux
Alain Robidoux (born July 25, 1960) is a Canadian retired professional snooker player. Robidoux played on the sport's main tour from 1987 to 2004 and reached the final of the 1996 German Open, which he lost 7–9 to Ronnie O'Sullivan. Career Robidoux was born on 25 July 1960 in Canada. He joined the professional snooker circuit in the 1987–88 snooker season as a "non-tournament" professional. This entitled him to play only in the World Championship. He amassed enough points in the 1988 World Championship qualifiers to finish in the top 128 players, which allowed him to join the tour full-time. Joe Swail
Joe Swail (born 29 August 1969) is a Northern Irish former professional snooker player from Belfast. He retired in May 2019 after being relegated from the tour. He has reached ten major ranking semi-finals, including the 2000 and 2001 World Championships but only one final. Swail is renowned for playing well at the Crucible Theatre, having reached the last 16 on four further occasions. He is also a former English amateur champion and Northern Ireland amateur runner-up, and has captained Northern Ireland internationally. He was Irish champion in 1992 and 2005. Tony Jones (born 15 April 1960) is an English former professional snooker player from Nottinghamshire. Early life From Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, he won the Nottingham Junior Championship at the age of 15 years-old, but only started playing snooker seriously in 1981. That year, he moved to Chesterfield, Derbyshire, to become resident player/coach at the Chesterfield Snooker Centre despite never having been coached himself.
