1993 Bataan Gubernatorial Recall Election
The 1993 Bataan gubernatorial recall election was held on December 20, 1993 in the province of Bataan, Philippines. Former governor Ding Roman defeated incumbent Tet Garcia in the recall election to become governor of Bataan. Electoral system Recall elections are allowed by Republic Act No. 7160 or the 1991 Local Government Code of the Philippines. A recall can be initiated by a petition of at least 25% of the registered voters in the local government unit (LGU) concerned. A resolution from a preparatory recall assembly composed of all of the elected local officials in the LGU concerned is another method of initiating a recall election. An official could be subjected to a recall only once during one's term of office, and from one year after the official took office, up to one year before the next regularly scheduled election. Mariveles, officially the Municipality of Mariveles ( tl, Bayan ng Mariveles), is a first class municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 149,879 people. History Founded as a ''pueblo'' by a Franciscan Friar in 1578, Mariveles, the "Village of Camaya" was part of the Corregimiento of Mariveles, including Bagac and Morong, Corregidor and Maragondon, Cavite. Dinalupihan, officially the Municipality of Dinalupihan ( tl, Bayan ng Dinalupihan), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Bataan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 118,209 people. Dinalupihan, the only landlocked town in the province, is accessible via SCTEX (Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway) and the Bataan Provincial Expressway, off Exit 5. Etymology "Dinalupijan" came from the festival rites of the Aetas commemorating the deity "Indianalo", the goddess of hunting and bountiful harvest. "Indianalo" was paired with the Sanskrit word "jann", meaning paradise. Abstention is a term in election procedure for when a participant in a vote either does not go to vote (on election day) or, in parliamentary procedure, is present during the vote, but does not cast a ballot.
