1992 Swedish Speedway Season
The 1992 Swedish speedway season was the 1992 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1992 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Mariestad on 6 September. John Cook won the Swedish Championship. Cook became the first and only rider in the history of the event to win the title as a non-Swedish rider. He qualified for the competition due to his residence being in Sweden. U21 Championship Mikael Karlsson won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Örnarna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the first time in their history. The Örnarna team included Kelvin Tatum, Peter Karlsson, Christer Rohlén, Mikael Karlsson and Rick Miller. The 1991 Swedish speedway season was the 1991 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 1991 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Vetlanda on 21 September. Peter Karlsson won the Swedish Championship for the second time. U21 Championship Jorgen Hultgren won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Indianerna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the second successive season. The Indianerna team included Henrik Gustafsson, Christer Rohlén, Mikael Blixt, Lars Gunnestad and Stefan Dannö. Brassarna changed their name to Nässjö and Örebro changed their name to Buddys. Dackarna won the first division and Kaparna won the second division. Bysarna
Bysarna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the Gamla Speedway Track, in Galgberget, north of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. They were four times league champions of Sweden. Season summary History 1921 to 1951 The beginning of speedway in Visby can be traced back to November 1921 when the Gotland Motor Association was formed. Eight years later in 1929 the Gotland Motorcycle Club were riding dirt track races. A meeting was held at Gutavallen on 23 October and several other meetings took place at various venues before the war. After the war a suitable piece of land was acquired in Galgberget and the track was completed in 1951. 1967 to 1977 Although a track existed in Visby there was no team until 1967, when a team called Bysarna entered Division 3 east, during the 1967 Swedish speedway season. Smederna
Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion outside Eskilstuna. Ikaros Smederna was formerly known as just Smederna but after making a sponsorship deal with company Ikaros in the fall of 2008 the club changed its name. However, this did not have the wanted effect on the club economy and in July 2009 the club went bankrupt and withdrew from Elitserien to restart in Division 1. Richard Leonard (Rick) Miller (born 12 January 1961, Reseda, California)Oakes, P & Rising, P (1986). ''1986 Speedway Yearbook''. is a former American international motorcycle speedway rider, and an automotive and motorcycle stuntman. Miller won two national BMX titles as a Webco-sponsored rider in his early teens. Miller then rode motocross in the southern California area before switching to Speedway. Career Miller started his speedway career in 1981, became pro the next year and won rookie of the year. Speedway credits for 1982 include the Ventura track championship and the US Open National Championship in Owego, New York. In 1986 he won the inaugural West End Speedway International at the Wayville Showground in Adelaide, South Australia. Christer Rohlén
Christer Karlsson Rohlén (born 7 April 1967) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Rohlén started his career riding for Indianerna in 1983. He would spend nine seasons with the club and reached the final of the 1988 Junior World Championship. He won his first of six Swedish Speedway Team Championships with Indianerna in 1990. In 1992, he joined Örnarna from Indianerna and would go on to win four more Elitserien titles in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996. In 1994, he made his British leagues debut with Arena Essex Hammers for the 1994 British League season. Kelvin Tatum
Kelvin Martin Tatum MBE (born 8 February 1964, in Epsom, Surrey) is a former British international motorcycle speedway and grasstrack rider. Career Tatum attended Brighton College from 1977 to 1980. He started riding speedway bikes at Hackney's training school at Hackney Wick Stadium in the winter of 1982-83. He was given his first team place at Hackney's London rivals, Wimbledon Dons, riding in the top flight British League in 1983. He finished the season with an average of over six points per meeting. In 1985 he signed for Coventry Bees, staying there for the next six seasons. Stints then followed at Berwick Bandits, Bradford Dukes, Arena Essex Hammers, Poole Pirates, Peterborough Panthers and the ill-fated London Lions, with brother Neville Tatum among his teammates. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play off.
