1992 Edmonton Municipal Election
The 1992 municipal election was held on October 22, 1992, to elect a mayor and twelve aldermen to sit on Edmonton City Council, nine trustees to sit on the public school board, and seven trustees to sit on the separate school board. Edmontonians also voted on one plebiscite question. Voter turnout A total of 215,556 ballots were cast out of 417,271 eligible voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 51.7%. Results (bold indicates elected, ''italics'' indicate incumbent) Mayor Aldermen Two councillors were elected in each ward through block voting. Four women and eight men were elected as city councillors. Public school trustees One trustee is elected from each ward. Additional trustees are elected by selecting the non-victorious candidate with the most votes between Wards 1 and 4, Wards 2 and 3, and Wards 5 and 6. Edmonton City Council
The Edmonton City Council is the governing body of the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edmonton currently has one mayor and twelve city councillors. Elections are held every four years. The most recent was held in 2021, and the next is in 2025. The mayor is elected across the whole city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. Councillors are elected one per ward, a division of the city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. On July 22, 2009, City Council voted to change the electoral system of six 2-seat wards to a system of 12 single-member wards. Each ward is represented by a single councillor. The changes took effect in the 2010 election. In the 2010 election, Edmonton was divided into 12 wards each electing one councillor. Jane Batty
Jane Batty (born 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a former member of Edmonton City Council, last representing Ward 6. She was first elected in the 2001 Edmonton municipal election. She served on council to 2013. Prior to her first term on council, Batty served as both a management consultant and vice-president at Denny Andrew's Ford in Edmonton. Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport
Edmonton City Centre Airport (ECCA), was an airport within the city of Edmonton, in the Canadian province of Alberta. It was bordered by Yellowhead Trail to the north, Kingsway to the south, 121 Street to the west, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Jefferson armouries to the east. It encompassed approximately of land just north of the city centre of Edmonton. The airport was originally called Blatchford Field, named for former mayor Kenneth Alexander Blatchford. His son, Howard ("Cowboy") Blatchford, became a noted fighter pilot in World War II. Richard Mather (July 20, 1941 – August 13, 1997) was a municipal politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of Edmonton city council from 1995 until his death in 1997. Robert J. Alford (born December 10, 1950, in Edson, Alberta) is a Canadian politician. He married in 1975 and raised two daughters. Education Alford graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (S.A.I.T.) in 1971 with a diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Technology. Politics Reform Party of Canada Alford entered politics as the Edmonton Southeast Reform Party Riding Association Policy Vice-President in 1988, and served in this position for one year. He worked as a campaign volunteer in the 1988 and 1997 federal elections, and in the 1989 Alberta Senate nominee election. Catherine Chichak
Catherine Chichak (October 7, 1934 – April 6, 2009) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. She served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and as an Alderman in the City of Edmonton. Early life Catherine Chichak was born in the small village of Krasne, Saskatchewan and grew up in the nearby town of Wynard. After high school she moved to Edmonton, Alberta and attended McTavish Business College and the University of Alberta where she earned her real estate license. She married Stanley Chichak on May 14, 1960. Political career Chichak first ran for political office in the 1966 Edmonton municipal election. Janice Rhea Reimer
Janice Rhea Reimer (born May 23, 1952) is a Canadian politician and the first female mayor of Edmonton, Alberta, having served in that capacity from 1989 until 1995. Highlights of her time in office included the inception of a new waste management system (which included curbside pickup of recyclables) and repeated efforts by Peter Pocklington, owner of the Edmonton Oilers, to secure concessions from the city in exchange for his agreement not to move the team. Tooker Gomberg
Tooker Gomberg (August 12, 1955 – March 4, 2004) was a Canadian politician and environmental activist. A native of Montreal, Quebec, a graduate of Herzliah High School and a liberal-arts graduate of Hampshire College (1980), Gomberg founded one of Canada's first curbside recycling programs in Montreal, and later moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he created educational materials for Alberta's energy ministry and headed the EcoCity Society, an environmental agency.
