Belle Vue Maurel
Belle Vue Harel is a village in Mauritius that is located in the Pamplemousses District on the northern part of the island. It is located next to Plaine des Papayes village. It is part of the larger Plaine des Papayes area which as of 2011 had 7,607 inhabitants. The village is the site of the Stade Anjalay, which is a prominent football venue for the nation, with the national football team and two top division teams ( Pamplemousses SC, AS Rivière du Rempart) being resident. 10,000 Metres
The 10,000 metres or the 10,000-metre run is a common long-distance track running event. The event is part of the athletics programme at the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships, and is common at championship level events. The race consists of 25 laps around an Olympic-sized track. It is less commonly held at track and field meetings, due to its duration. The 10,000-metre track race is usually distinguished from its road running counterpart, the 10K run, by its reference to the distance in metres rather than kilometres. Josphat Machuka
Josephat Machuka (born 12 December 1973) is a Kenyan long-distance runner. He won IAAF World Cross Country Championships junior bronze medal in 1992 and 1993. In the 1996 IAAF World Cross Country Championships he was 10th and was part of the Kenyan team that won team gold. At the 1992 World Junior Championships he competed in the 10,000 metres finishing second, but as he was being passed just before the finish, he deliberately punched at the eventual winner Haile Gebrselassie during the final sprint and was disqualified. Overshadowed by Gebrselassie his entire career, this early incident is what Machuka is best remembered for. He competed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, finishing fifth in the men's 10,000 metres race, won by Haile Gebrselassie. He was also fifth in the 1995 World Championships 10,000 metres race. Worku Bikila
Worku Bikila (born 6 May 1968) is a retired Ethiopian long-distance runner, who specialized mainly in the 5000 metres. His 10,000 metres time of 27:06.44 minutes in 1995 was the second-fastest time that year, behind Haile Gebrselassie. He represented Ethiopia at the World Championships in Athletics on three occasions (1993, 1995 and 1997). He was a two-time winner at the Zevenheuvelenloop 15,000 metres, from 1997 to 1998. James Songok
James Songok (born 23 July 1970) is a Kenyan male long-distance runner who competed in cross country, track and road running. He began his career focusing on track running and after a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1988 World Junior Championships in Athletics, he went on to win the 5000 metres title at the Kenyan Athletics Championships, then the gold medal in that event at the 1992 African Championships in Athletics. Songok represented Kenya at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships on three occasions. He helped the Kenyan men to the team title in both 1994 and 1995, taking sixth then seventh place, respectively. He was picked for a third time running, but managed on 23rd place in the 1996 race. He attempted to convert to road races thereafter but, after moderate success of fourth at the Stramilano and second at the Puy-en-Velay 15K, he ceased competing after the 1997 season. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement.
