The 1991 Puerto Rico Open was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Hyatt Regency Cerromar Hotel in San Juan in Puerto Rico that was part of the Tier IV category of the 1991 WTA Tour. It was the sixth edition of the tournament and was held from October 21 through October 27, 1991. Second-seeded Julie Halard won the singles title and earned $27,000 first-prize money. The WTA Tier IV tournaments were Women's Tennis Association fourth-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. Camille Benjamin (born June 22, 1966) is an American former professional tennis player. Benjamin played on the WTA tour from 1981 to 1994. She reached the semifinals of the French Open in 1984, defeating Cláudia Monteiro, Jamie Golder, Catrin Jexell, Sabrina Goleš and Lisa Bonder before losing to Chris Evert. Sabine Appelmans
Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup Captain (sports), captain from 2007 until 2011. Career Appelmans started playing at the neighbour's court at the age of seven. Her first trainer, Fred Debruyn, saw immediately that she was very talented. Although right-handed, she played left-handed; at a children's tennis training session she claimed to be left-handed so she could stay with her friend in the left-handed group. Appelmans turned pro in 1988, and won her first title against Chanda Rubin in Virginia Slims of Arizona, Scottsdale in 1991. Amanda Coetzer (born 22 October 1971, in Hoopstad) is a South African former professional tennis player. Coetzer finished in the WTA rankings top 20 for ten consecutive seasons (1992–2001), peaking at world No. 3. She reached three Grand Slam semifinals (Australian Open 1996 and 1997, French Open 1997) and one Grand Slam doubles final ( US Open 1993). Julie Halard-Decugis (born 10 September 1970) is a French former professional tennis player. Tennis career Halard-Decugis lived in La Baule, France, during the initial stages of her career and later moved to Pully, Switzerland. She turned professional in 1986. She won the French Open junior singles title in 1988 and was the Wimbledon junior singles runner-up in 1987. She retired from the WTA Tour tennis circuit at the end of the 2000 season. John Edward Barrett, (born 17 April 1931) is a British former tennis player, television commentator and author.
