1991 Libertarian National Convention
The 1991 Libertarian National Convention was held in Chicago, Illinois from August 29 to August 31, 1991. Andre Marrou of Alaska was chosen as the Libertarian Party's nominee for president in the 1992 election. This was the first Libertarian National Convention to receive national television coverage, with C-SPAN broadcasting the convention. Libertarians hold a National Convention every two years to vote on party bylaws, platform and resolutions and elect national party officers and a judicial committee. Every four years it nominates presidential and vice presidential candidates. None Of The Above
"None of the above" (NOTA), or none for short, also known as "against all" or a "scratch" vote, is a ballot option in some jurisdictions or organizations, designed to allow the voter to indicate disapproval of the candidates in a voting system. It is based on the principle that consent requires the ability to withhold consent in an election, just as they can by voting "No" on ballot questions. It must be contrasted with " abstention", in which a voter does not cast a ballot. Entities that include "None of the Above" on ballots as standard procedure include India ("None of the above"), Indonesia (, "empty box"), Greece (, white), the U.S. state of Nevada ( None of These Candidates), Ukraine (, "against all"), Belarus, Spain (, "white vote"), North Korea, and Colombia (). The Libertarian Party of Colorado is the state affiliate of the Libertarian Party (United States), Libertarian Party in Colorado. The state chair is Wayne Harlos. Elected libertarians in Colorado include city councilmen Doug Anderson in Lakewood, Colorado, Joe Johnson in Frederick, Colorado, and Sheriff Bill Masters in San Miguel County, Colorado, San Miguel County. 1992 Republican National Convention
The 1992 Republican National Convention was held in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, from August 17 to August 20, 1992. The convention nominated President George H. W. Bush and Vice President Dan Quayle for reelection. It was Bush's fourth consecutive appearance as a candidate on a major party ticket; only Bush and Franklin D. Roosevelt have been nominated on four consecutive presidential tickets. Richard Nixon and Roosevelt were nominated five times, but not consecutively. Site selection The two finalist cities that Houston had defeated to land the convention were New Orleans, Louisiana and San Diego, California. 1992 Democratic National Convention
The 1992 Democratic National Convention nominated Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas for president and Senator Al Gore from Tennessee for vice president; Clinton announced Gore as his running-mate on July 9, 1992. The convention was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York from July 13 to July 16, 1992. The Clinton-Gore ticket then faced and defeated their Republican opponents, President George H. W. Bush and Vice President Dan Quayle as well as the independent ticket of Ross Perot and James Stockdale in the 1992 presidential election. In a departure from tradition, the convention featured three keynote speakers: Georgia Governor Zell Miller, Senator Bill Bradley and former Representative Barbara Jordan, who also served as a keynote speaker at the 1976 Democratic National Convention. United States Presidential Nominating Convention
A United States presidential nominating convention is a political convention held every four years in the United States by most of the political parties who will be fielding nominees in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The formal purpose of such a convention is to select the party's nominee for popular election as President, as well as to adopt a statement of party principles and goals known as the '' party platform'' and adopt the rules for the party's activities, including the presidential nominating process for the next election cycle. Since 1972, the delegates have been mostly selected in presidential primaries state by state. This allows the nominees to be decided before the convention opens. Calvin Warburton
Calvin Warburton (May 28, 1910 – October 16, 1995) is a former member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He represented Raymond as a member of the Libertarian Party, having left the Republican Party in 1991. Early life and career Warburton grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts and worked as a military chaplain in World War II, Korea and Germany, then in the National Guard. Political career Entering politics at the age of 66, Warburton ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Hampshire's 1st congressional district in 1976. In 1991, Warburton unsuccessfully ran for the 1992 Libertarian vice presidential nomination. Warburton sought the party's nomination for Governor of New Hampshire in 1992 and 1994. Mary J. Ruwart (born October 16, 1949) is an American retired biomedical researcher and a libertarian speaker, writer, and activist. She was a leading candidate for the 2008 Libertarian Party presidential nomination and is the author of the book ''Healing Our World''. Early life, education, and medical career Ruwart was born in Detroit, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in biochemistry (1970), and a doctorate in biophysics (1974) from Michigan State University. After a 2½ year term on the faculty of the Department of Surgery at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Ruwart spent 19 years as a pharmaceutical research scientist for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, and has written extensively on the subjects of government regulation of the drug industry and on libertarian communication.
