A Lyga
The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) (). History The first football league was established in Lithuania in 1924, and in various forms existed until 1939. Due to the Polish–Lithuanian War, clubs from Vilnius did not take part in early period of the Lithuanian football competitions. Later during the period of Soviet occupation, a Lithuanian amateur top division existed, while professional players played in USSR football competitions. The Lithuanian professional top division was restored in 1990. The naming convention changed several times, but since 1999 the league is consistently referred to as A lyga. Format The league system and size have also stabilized since 1999. League size varied mostly between 8 and 10 teams, with the exceptions of 2011 A Lyga featuring 12 teams, and 2020 A Lyga record low of only 6 teams. The teams play 4 rounds in regular season. FK Kareda Kaunas
FK Kareda was a Lithuanian defunct football team from the city of Šiauliai and re-located from Šiauliai to Kaunas in 2000. It was dissolved in 2003. Before 2000 it was known as "Kareda Šiauliai". In 1995–1996 it was known as "Kareda-Sakalas Šiauliai". Before 1995 it was known as "Sakalas Šiauliai". In 1990 was founded Sakalas, in 1995 this club was sponsored by the criminal group "Princai" from Šiauliai. Tauras Šiauliai
Tauras, formerly known as Vilniaus Tauras, was a Lithuanian brewery, established in Vilnius in 1860. Tauras was taken over by Royal Unibrew in 2001. It is a part of Kalnapilio-Tauro grupė. History The original brewery was founded in 1860 in Vilna, then in the Russian Empire. The firm was located in the borough of Lukiškės, right outside the city's limits. The original founders were two local Jewish entrepreneurs: Abel Sołowiejczyk and Iser Berg Wolf. FK Mažeikiai was a Lithuanian football club from city of Mažeikiai. History In 1992, the club ROMAR Mažeikiai was founded in Mažeikiai – an acronym for Romas Marcinkevičius, the main investor of the club. In 1993, ROMAR finished the league in sixth position, and in the 1993–94 A Lyga season, it won the Lithuanian championship. In 1995, Romar finished in third position, but because of a financial problems, the club was expelled from the top division. After the dissolvement of ROMAR, FK Mažeikiai was founded as a phoenix club.
