1990–91 ECHL Season
The 1990–91 ECHL season was the third season of the ECHL. In 1990, the league welcomed three new franchises: Cincinnati Cyclones, Louisville Icehawks, and Richmond Renegades. The Virginia Lancers franchise was renamed the Roanoke Valley Rebels. The eleven teams played 64 games in the schedule. The Knoxville Cherokees finished first overall in the regular season. The Hampton Roads Admirals won their first Riley Cup championship. Don Jackson (ice Hockey)
Donald Clinton Jackson (born September 2, 1956) is an American ice hockey coach and former professional ice hockey player who played 315 games in the National Hockey League between 1978 and 1987. Jackson began his coaching career in 1988. From May 2014 through May 2023, he served as head coach of EHC Red Bull München. During his time in Munich, he won five Deutsche Eishockey Liga titles. Playing career Jackson grew up playing ice hockey in Bloomington, Minnesota, for John F. Kennedy High School and earned a scholarship to attend and play for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Prior to graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1978, Jackson was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL's 1976 Amateur Draft, third round, 39th overall. He played 2 games for the North Stars late in the 1978 season after finishing his college career and spent most of the next 3 seasons playing for the North Stars minor league team, the Oklahoma City Stars. Kelly Cup
The Patrick J. Kelly Cup goes to the playoff champion of the ECHL. The Kelly Cup has been awarded to teams since 1997. Prior to 1997, the playoff winner was awarded the Riley Cup, named after former American Hockey League president Jack Riley. The current cup is named after Patrick J. Kelly, the league's first commissioner. The cup is loaned to the winning team for one year and is returned at the start of the following year's playoffs, although the trophy itself has been replaced three times with the first two iterations preserved in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Kelly Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player award is also given out as part of the Kelly Cup Championship ceremonies. Nick Vitucci, Dave Gagnon and Cam Johnson are the only players to win the award on multiple occasions, with Johnson the only player to win the award in consecutive years. Sheldon Gorski
Sheldon Gorski is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former Winger (ice hockey), right wing who was an List of Division I AHCA All-American Teams, All-American for UIC Flames men's ice hockey, Illinois–Chicago. Career Gorski's final season of junior hockey resulted in him leading the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, SJHL in goals and he signed an athletic scholarship with UIC Flames men's ice hockey, Illinois–Chicago. He joined the Flames as they were on the ascent and helped the team produce its first 20-win season as a sophomore. An injury limited Gorski in his junior season but he returned in force as a senior, scoring a program record 38 goals and becoming the all-time program leader with 86 markers. Murray Hood
Murray Hood (born November 17, 1964) is a Canadians, Canadian former professional ice hockey centre (ice hockey), centre who played 138 games with the Hampton Roads Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League between 1989 and 1992. Playing career Hood started the 1989-90 season in camp with the Greensboro Generals. He, along with teammate Brian Martin, were traded to the Admirals prior to the start of the season, Hood spent him with Providence, Fort Wayne, and in Austria. In his rookie season with the Admirals, Hood would lead the team with 69 assists and 84 points. However, Hood would not play during the playoffs against the Erie Panthers. During the 1990-91 ECHL season, Hood scored 82 assists and 103 points for the Admirals. His 82 assists remain a single-season club record. Dean Anderson (born 1 August 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn and St Kilda in the Australian Football League. The 1992–93 ECHL season was the fifth season of the ECHL. In 1992, the league saw numerous changes in team membership. The Winston-Salem Thunderbirds move to Wheeling, WV, becoming the first franchise to make a major relocation, the Roanoke Valley Rebels announced that they were changing their name to the Roanoke Valley Rampage, and the Cincinnati Cyclones announced that they were moving to the International Hockey League and were being replaced with a franchise in Birmingham, AL. ECHL All-Star Game
The ECHL All-Star Game is an exhibition ice hockey game that traditionally marks the midway point of the ECHL's regular season, with many of the league's star players playing against each other. The starting lineup for the teams, including the starting goaltender, is voted on by the coaches, players, and other league representatives. The coaches for the All-Star Game teams are typically the head coaches of the teams that, at the time of the All-Star Game roster announcements, are leading their respective conferences in point percentage (i.e. fraction of points obtained out of total possible points). The All-Star Game festivities also includes an ''ECHL All-Star Skills Competition'', a competition showing the various talents of the all-stars. Daniel Lester Gauthier (; born December 2, 1963) is an American actor best known for his roles as Kevin Buchanan on the American Broadcasting Company, ABC soap opera ''One Life to Live'', Matt Liston on the sitcom ''Ellen'', Brad Powell in the 1989 film ''Teen Witch'' and Lt.
