1990 Palanca Awards
The 40th Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature was held to commemorate the memory of Don Carlos Palanca Sr. through an endeavor that would promote education and culture in the country. Palanca Awards
The Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, popularly known as the Palanca Awards, are a set of literary awards for Philippine writers. Usually referred to as the "Pulitzer Prize of the Philippines", it is the country's highest literary honor in terms of prestige. Winning works are entered in the competition either as previously published pieces or in manuscript form. The Palanca Awards, organized by the Carlos Palanca Foundation, is one of the Philippines' longest-running awards programs. It was named after Carlos Palanca Sr. History Palanca Awards was established in 1950 to inspire and recognize Philippine writers, including poets, playwrights and screenwriters, and writers for children. In the 1960s, the Palanca Awards Committee started to fund the publication of Palanca Award-winning plays, and production funds were committed in 1975. Dean Francis Alfar
Dean Francis Alfar (born 2 January 1969), is a Filipino playwright, novelist and writer of speculative fiction. His plays have been performed in venues across the country, while his articles and fiction have been published both in his native Philippines and abroad, such as in Strange Horizons, Rabid Transit, The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror and the Exotic Gothic series. Lavrente Indico Anciro Diaz (born December 30, 1958) is a Filipino independent filmmaker and former film critic. Frequently known as one of the key members of the slow cinema movement, having made several of the longest narrative films on record. Diaz is one of the most critically acclaimed contemporary Filipino filmmakers. Diaz started making films in the late 1990s. His first international exposure was at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in 1999 with his directorial debut Serafin Geronimo: Kriminal ng Baryo Concepcion (The Criminal of Barrio Concepcion). The Hong Kong event went on to present his next two features: Naked Under the Moon in 2000 and Batang West Side in 2001. European film festivals only caught on with '' Norte, the End of History'' (2013), which was entered into the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and received much critical praise. Lilia Quindoza Santiago
Lilia Quindoza Santiago (February 5, 1949 – February 15, 2021) was a writer and academic in the Philippines. She was named ''Makata ng Taon'', "Poet of the Year," in 1989, and wrote the prize-winning novel ''Ang Kaulayaw ng Agila''. Her academic work focused on languages of the Philippines as well as gender and sexuality studies, and her scholarly publications included the seminal 2002 anthology ''Sa Ngalan ng Ina (In the Name of the Mother): 100 Years of Philippine Feminist Poetry, 1889-1989''. Early life and education Lilia Quindoza was born in 1949 in Manaoag, in the Philippines' Pangasinan province. She grew up in Baguio, where she attended secondary school. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in English from the University of the Philippines in 1971, she obtained a master's in comparative literature in 1980 and a Ph.D. in Philippine studies in 1990 from the same institution.
