WTA Tier IV Tournaments
The WTA Tier IV tournaments were Women's Tennis Association fourth-level tournaments held from 1990 until the end of the 2008 season. The line-up of events varied over the years, with tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Conchita Martínez
"Conchita" Martínez Bernat (born 16 April 1972) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. She was the first Spaniard to win the women's singles title at Wimbledon, doing so in 1994. Martínez also was the runner-up at the 1998 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open. She reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2 in October 1995, and was in the year-end Top 10 for nine years. Kristin Godridge (born 7 February 1973) is a retired tennis player from Australia who competed on the WTA Tour from 1987 to 1996. Career Godridge achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 79 in September 1991. Her highest doubles ranking was No. 68 in December 1990. Kirrily Sharpe
Kirrily Sharpe (born 25 February 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Biography Sharpe, a left-handed player from Sydney, trained with the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. She was a member of the Australian team which won the 1988 World Youth Cup, now known as the Junior Fed Cup. While still only 17, she competed in the main draw of the 1990 French Open as a qualifier and scored an upset win over 14th seed Raffaella Reggi, en route to the third round. John Barrett (tennis)
John Edward Barrett, (born 17 April 1931) is a former tennis player, television commentator and author. He was born in Mill Hill, North West London, the son of Alfred Edward Barrett, a leaf tobacco merchant, and Margaret Helen Barrett (née Walker). He had one sister, Irene Margaret Leppington (1925–2009), a research chemist. Alexia Dechaume-Balleret (born 3 May 1970) is a former professional tennis player from France. In her career, she reached three finals on the WTA Tour: at Taranto in 1990, she lost to Raffaella Reggi, and in New York in 1991, she lost to Brenda Schultz-McCarthy at Schenectady, both Tier V tournaments.
