The 1990 Nutri-Metics Bendon Classic was a women's tennis tournament played on Hardcourt, outdoor hard courts at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland in New Zealand that was part of WTA Tier V tournaments, Tier V of the 1990 WTA Tour. It was the fifth edition of the tournament and was held from 29 January until 4 February 1990. Second-seeded Leila Meskhi won the singles title. Finals Singles Leila Meskhi defeated Sabine Appelmans 6–1, 6–0 * It was Meskhi's 1st singles title of the year and the 2nd of her career. WTA Tier V Tournaments
The WTA Tier V tournaments were the fifth, and lowest, level of women's tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour between 1990 and 1992 and from 2001 to 2005. The line-up of events varied over the years, with tournaments being promoted, demoted or cancelled. Most of the Tier V tournaments became WTA Tier IV tournaments, Tier IV events between 1993 and 2000 and from 2006 to 2008. In 2009 WTA Tour, 2009, WTA changed the tournament categories, so that most of the WTA Tier III tournaments, Tier III, Tier IV and Tier V tournaments from 2008 were placed in a single, WTA International tournaments, category. Sabine Appelmans
Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup Captain (sports), captain from 2007 until 2011. Career Appelmans started playing at the neighbour's court at the age of seven. Her first trainer, Fred Debruyn, saw immediately that she was very talented. Although right-handed, she played left-handed; at a children's tennis training session she claimed to be left-handed so she could stay with her friend in the left-handed group. Appelmans turned pro in 1988, and won her first title against Chanda Rubin in Virginia Slims of Arizona, Scottsdale in 1991. She made her first Fed Cup appearance in 1988, with a 1–2 loss against Austria Fed Cup team, Austria. In 1997, she married Serge Haubourdin. Throughout her career, she won seven singles and four doubles titles.
