1989–90 NSL Cup
The 1989–90 NSL Cup was the 14th edition of the NSL Cup, which was the main national association football knockout cup competition in Australia. Adelaide City were the defending champions, having defeated Sydney Olympic to win their second title in the previous year's final, but they were eliminated in the semi-finals by eventual winners South Melbourne. South Melbourne defeated Sydney Olympic 4–1 in the final to win their first NSL Cup title. Teams The NSL Cup was a knockout competition with 14 teams taking part all trying to reach the Final in April 1990. The competition consisted of the 14 teams from the National Soccer League. Kimon Taliadoros (born 28 March 1968) is a former Australian footballer, sports commentator and businessman. He is President of Football Victoria. Joe Palatsides (born 7 July 1965) is a Greek Australian soccer manager and former player, who last served as the head coach of the Melbourne Victory FC Youth. Playing career A defender, Palatsides began his senior football career with Brunswick Juventus where he quickly became a first team regular, his best season coming in their relegation year where he played in every home-and-away game, scoring 11 goals. Angelos "Ange" Postecoglou ( ; ; born 27 August 1965) is a soccer manager and former player who was most recently manager of club Tottenham Hotspur. Born in Greece, Postecoglou grew up in Melbourne from the age of five.
