The 1989 Danish speedway season was the 1989 season of motorcycle speedway in Denmark. Individual Danish Final (world championship round) Six riders from the Danish final would progress to the Nordic Final as part of the 1989 Individual Speedway World Championship. The final was held on 19 May at Vojens and was won by Erik Gundersen. The Danish Speedway League ( da, Dansk Speedway Liga) or Danish Super League or Metal League as it is called today is the top division of motorcycle speedway in Denmark. Danish Under 21 Individual Speedway Championship
The Danish Under 21 Individual Speedway Championship is a competition for riders who are under the age of 21, holding a Danish passport and a valid DMU licence. The competition was first staged in 1960 and was won by Jorgen Hoffman. Although there was no competition in 1961, the event returned in 1962 and has been staged every year since. Bo Petersen (born 21 February 1958 Bolbro, Denmark) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark. He was the 1980 Danish champion. Career Petersen first rode in the United Kingdom with the Hackney Hawks. Signed by Len Silver in 1978 he stayed with the Hackney until they closed at the end of the season 1983. In 1984, Petersen signed for the Swindon Robins. He then had spells with King's Lynn Stars and Wolverhampton Wolves in the top flight of the British League, before joining long-time sponsor Ivan Henry's new club Arena Essex Hammers in 1991. Henry had combined with Terry Russell to take over the Hammers from former promoter Chick Woodroffe. Competing in the British League Division Two, Petersen topped the league averages and led Arena to the League Championship, Knockout Cup and Fours Team Championship. Gert Handberg (born 30 May 1969 in Brædstrup, Denmark) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider form Denmark. Career Gert joined Cradley Heathens in 1988 on a recommendation, after winning the Danish Junior Championship during the 1986 Danish speedway season. He rode for the club for six consecutive seasons. In 1992, he became the champion of Denmark. He was a member of the Denmark speedway team when they won the 1991 World Team Cup. He also won the World Under-21 Championship in 1989 and finished 3rd in the 1992 senior world final. Danish Individual Speedway Championship
Individual Speedway Danish Championship is the National competition for Danish speedway riders to determine the champion of Denmark. The event was first held in 1947. From 1947 to 1951 there was no definitive difference between the short track and long track Championship of Denmark resulting in the same winner being recorded for both versions. Qualification Riders holding a Danish passport and a valid DMU licence. Riders must submit their entries at least four weeks before the first meeting of the competition. Any riders who competed in the Speedway Grand Prix or World Championship Qualifying rounds during the previous season are seeded directly to the Final. The DMU may also seed other riders directly to the Final at their discretion. Either one or two Semi-Finals are staged depending on the number of riders entering the competition (excluding the seeded riders who go straight through to the Final).
