1987 Hamburg State Election
The 1987 Hamburg state election was held on 17 May 1987 to elect members of the 13th Hamburg Parliament. It was the first time in nine years that the Free Democratic Party (Germany), FDP has held a seat in the parliament, which resulted in a social-liberal coalition. Hamburg Parliament
The Hamburg Parliament (; literally “Hamburgish Citizenry” or, more poetically, “Hamburgish Burgess (title), Burgessry”) is the Unicameralism, unicameral legislature of the German state of Hamburg according to the constitution of Hamburg. As of 2025 there are 121 sitting members, representing 17 electoral districts. The parliament is situated in the city hall Hamburg Rathaus and is part of the Government of Hamburg. The parliament is among other things responsible for the law, the election of the ''Erster Bürgermeister'' (List of mayors of Hamburg, First Mayor) for the election period and the control of Senate of Hamburg, the Senate (Cabinet (government), cabinet). The President of the Hamburg Parliament is the highest official person of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
