1986–87 Santosh Trophy
The 1986–87 Santosh Trophy was the 43rd edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held in Tamluk, and Rabindra Sarobar Stadium and Mohun Bagan Ground in Calcutta, West Bengal. Bengal defeated Railways 2–0 in the final to win the competition for the 22nd time. Quarter-final League Bihar, Services, Railways and Haryana qualified from Cluster one to four. The eight teams that finished in the top two positions in each group in the quarter-final league in 1985–86 were seeded directly to the quarter-final. Group One Group Two Karnataka goal-keeper Basheer saved a penalty from Brooks in the 57th minute. West Bengal Football Team
The West Bengal football team (), also known as IFA Bengal football team or earlier the Bengal football team, is an Indian football team representing West Bengal in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They were the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament, by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969. History Bengal made its debut in the national competitions at the 1941–42 Santosh Trophy. West Bengal have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 47 times, having won 33 titles, the most by any team. Karnataka Football Team
The Karnataka football team (), also earlier the Mysore football team, is an Indian football team representing Karnataka in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 9 times, and have won the trophy 4 times. Prior to 1972, the team competed as ''Mysore''. Krishanu Dey
Krishanu Dey (; 14 February 1962 – 20 March 2003) was an Indian footballer from Kolkata, India. He was an attacking midfielder and was known as the "Indian Maradona" among his fans due to his footballing skills and playing style. He started his career with Mohun Bagan.He appeared on Calcutta Football League with club East Bengal from 1984 to 1991 and again from 1992 to 1994, and captained the team in 1989–90. During his playing days, Dey came in touch of Sushil Bhattacharya, East Bengal's first ever head coach. Sudip Chatterjee (footballer)
Sudip Chatterjee (15 December 1959 – 18 September 2006), nicknamed ''Tulu'', was an Indian international football player and coach. He started his career as a centre back and then moved to the right back position before switching to the midfielder role. As a midfielder, he was considered among the finest players in Indian football. He also managed Bengal in Santosh Trophy and won the 1998–99 edition. Playing career Sudip started his playing career with Howrah Sahajatri Club, where his skills were spotted by former India international Arun Ghosh. In 1981, he signed for Calcutta 1st Division league team Bengal Nagpur Railway (BNR) Club. After spending a season with BNR, he joined Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan in 1982. Debashish Roy (born 12 April 1955) is a former Indian footballer. This dynamic centre forward was the only footballer from Assam who played in all three giants of Kolkata Mohun Bagan AC, East Bengal Club and Mohammedan SC. Playing career Early career Born in Karimganj, Assam Roy started his football career by representing inter-college football tournaments for Karimganj College. Then he went onto captain the Gauhati University team in the All India University football championship and they defeated Calcutta University by 5-0 in the finals. Biswajit Bhattacharya
Biswajit Bhattacharya is a retired Indian professional footballer and football manager. He most recently managed Calcutta Football League club Calcutta Customs and is the current head coach of West Bengal football team. Playing career East Bengal Bhattacharya played as a striker in the India national football team and played for both the Calcutta Football League clubs East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. In 1985, he won Federation Cup with East Bengal and went on to play at the 1985–86 Asian Club Championship in Saudi Arabia. Managed by P. K. Banerjee, East Bengal was part of Central Asia Zone, and the tournament was named "Coca-Cola Cup" where they defeated multiple teams to win it. Prasanta Banerjee is an Indian football midfielder who played for India national football team in the 1984 Asian Cup. He is one of the few players who has captained and won trophies in all three big clubs viz. East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan Sporting. Playing career He started his career at Kalighat in 1975. He joined East Bengal in 1976, and captained the team in 1979–80. Later he joined Mohammedan Sporting followed by Mohun Bagan.
