Wigan Warriors
The Wigan Warriors is an English professional rugby league club based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The club competes in the Super League, the top tier of the British rugby league system. Formed in 1872, the club is a founding member of the Rugby Football League, Northern Rugby Football Union following the schism in 1895. Central Park (Wigan)
Central Park was a rugby league stadium in Wigan, England, which was the home of Wigan RLFC before the club moved to the JJB Stadium in 1999. Its final capacity was 18,000. The site is now a Tesco supermarket and car park. History On 6 September 1902, Wigan played at Central Park for the first time in the opening match of the newly formed First Division. An estimated crowd of 9,000 spectators saw Wigan beat Batley 14–8. The Polytechnic Stadium
The Polytechnic Stadium is a sports venue on Hartington Road, Chiswick, London. It is the centre piece of the Quintin Hogg Memorial Grounds (now known as University of Westminster Sports Grounds). History In 1888 Quintin Hogg built a boathouse near Chiswick Bridge, which is used at the finish of the university boat race each year. When Hogg died in 1903, an appeal to raise funds for a memorial in his memory took place. The Quintin and Alice Hogg Memorial was built and a piece of land in Chiswick was purchased. In 1936 plans were drawn up for a sports stadium to be built at the site. The design was undertaken by Joseph Addison, Head of Architecture at Regent Street Polytechnic. The Castleford Tigers are a professional rugby league club in Castleford, West Yorkshire, England. Post Office Road (currently known as the Millennium Stadium for sponsorship purposes) is a rugby league ground in Featherstone, near Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. Borough Park was a rugby league and greyhound racing stadium on Princess Street in Blackpool, Lancashire. Rugby league In 1963 a new home was built for the Blackpool Borough rugby league team between Princess Street to the north and Rigby Road to the south next to a gas works. Rugby league was held at the stadium from 1963 until 1987. Greyhound racing Greyhound racing arrived on 28 April 1967 with the racing being independent (not affiliated to the sports governing body the National Greyhound Racing Club). Mansfield Marksman was a rugby league team based at various times in Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton and ultimately Nottingham. The club changed its name to Nottingham City in 1989, and folded in 1994 a year after exiting the Rugby Football League.
