Sofia
Sofia ( ; bg, София, Sofiya, ) is the Capital city, capital and List of cities and towns in Bulgaria, largest city of Bulgaria. Vasil Etropolski
Vasil Etropolski (born 18 March 1959) is a Bulgarian fencing, fencer and fencing coach. He competed in the individual and team sabre (fencing), sabre events at the 1980 Summer Olympics, 1980 and 1988 Summer Olympics. He also won the 1983 World Fencing Championships, 1983 sabre world championship. He is the twin brother of Khristo Etropolski, who also fenced for Bulgaria at the 1980 and 1988 Olympics. At the New York Athletic Club he coached Stephen Kovacs, a sabre fencer who in 1989 won the United States Fencing Association (USFA) Under-17 saber championship, and in 1990 won the USFA Under-20 (Junior) saber championship. Kovacs later became a fencing coach, was charged with the sexual assault of two of his students, and died in prison in 2022. The World Fencing Championships is an annual competition in fencing organized by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE; ''International Fencing Federation'' in English). Contestants may participate in foil, épée, and sabre events. History The FIE first organized an international fencing championship in Paris, France in 1921. The competition in its early years was named the European Championships (''Championnats d'Europe''), and the initial participants were members of the fencing federations of the FIE. Anja Fichtel-Mauritz (born 17 August 1968, née Fichtel) is a retired German foil fencer. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, she won in the individual and team competitions, and she won the individual competition of the World Championship in 1986 and 1990. She was winner of the World Championships in 1985, 1989, 1993 as a member of the national German team and second in team competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
