1986 Hexagon World Men's Curling Championship
The 1986 Hexagon World Men's Curling Championship, the men's world curling championship, was held from March 31 to April 6 at the CNE Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Battle of the Sexes On April 5, a "Battle of the Sexes" game was held between 1983 World Men's Champion Ed Werenich and the reigning World Women's Champion Marilyn Darte rink in front of 6,000 fans at the CNE Coliseum. Werenich, and his rink of Rick Lang, John Kawaja and Neil Harrison prevailed 10–2. The event raised $26,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. Marilyn Darte
Marilyn C. Bodogh (also known as Marilyn Darte) (born March 9, 1955) is a Canadian curler, colour commentator and political candidate. Bodogh is best known for her two World Curling Championships in 1986 and 1996 and her two Tournament of Hearts championships to go with them. Biography Born in Toronto, Ontario, she moved to St. Catharines with her family when she was nine years old. Her first job was working with her family's lumber company. At 22, she opened a flower shop. Through marriage, she would later become co-owner of the George Darte Funeral Home. In 1980, Bodogh played third for her sister, Christine Bodogh, representing Ontario at the 1980 Canadian Ladies Curling Association Championship. Tommy Stjerne (born 20 July 1957 in Copenhagen) is a Danish curler. Stjerne curls out of Hvidovre Curling Club outside Copenhagen. He has represented Denmark in the 1977, 1981, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, and 1998 World Curling Championships. His best finish was a bronze in 1990. Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the main town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The town, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. It is the 2nd biggest suburb of Copenhagen, only beaten by Frederiksberg. History Hvidovre has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-year-old sword from the Bronze Age was excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre (Aworthe), was located in the area in about 1170 when Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later passed it on to Absalon, Bishop Absalon. A church was built during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was built in white chalk, as opposed to the one in Rødovre, Red Ovre, which was built in red brick.
