The 1986 Boston Marathon was the 90th running of the annual marathon race in Boston, United States, which was held on April 21. The elite men's race was won by Australia's Robert de Castella in a time of 2:07:51 hours and the women's race was won by Norway's Ingrid Kristiansen in 2:24:55. In the wheelchair race, André Viger of Canada won the men's race in 1:43:25 and Candace Cable of United States won the women's race in 2:09:28. Dan Schlesinger
Dan Schlesinger is an American lawyer and artist who was a former long-distance running athlete. He was the third-place finisher at the 1982 New York City Marathon and was in the top 10 finishers at the 1983 and 1986 Boston Marathons. Professional running career Schlesinger ran for Yale University, where many saw him as a rising star in the track and cross country sports. He set a record time in the six-mile run (which was previously held by Frank Shorter). Unfortunately, Schlesinger's progress faced setbacks. First he fell ill, and then he faced injuries. He returned to health and finished fifth in the 1975 New Haven Big Three title race (behind co-winners Craig Masback and Larry Tractenberg, who tied). Neil Cusack (born 30 December 1951 in Limerick) is a retired middle and long distance runner from Ireland. Early life Cusack was born in Limerick city in 1951 and attended St Munchin's College. Cusack attended East Tennessee State University. In 1972 he was the NCAA Men's Cross Country National Champion. Running career Cusack won the Boston Marathon in 1974. He remains the only Irish athlete to have won in Boston. In 1981 Cusack won the Dublin Marathon.
