1985 SANFL Grand Final
The 1985 SANFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Glenelg Football Club and North Adelaide Football Club at Football Park on 5 October 1985. It was the 87th grand final of the South Australian National Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1985 SANFL season. The match, attended by 50,289 spectators, was won by Glenelg by a margin of 57 points, marking the club's third SANFL premiership, having previously won the premiership in 1973. Stephen Copping
Stephen Copping (born 3 August 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) during the 1980s. After finishing as Glenelg's joint leading goal kicker in 1979 and outright in 1981, Essendon recruited Copping and he made his senior VFL debut in the opening round of the 1982 VFL season. He finished the year with 45 goals, a tally which included four from their Elimination Final loss to North Melbourne. The following season he had another good year in front of goals, kicking 42 goals, with a career best haul of seven against Footscray at home and two further bags of six. Ross Gibbs
Ross Gibbs is a former Australian rules footballer who played for West Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). A dual Western Australian interstate representative, Gibbs could play as a ruck-rover or in defence. Peter Gareth Carey (born 27 January 1954) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Glenelg Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) from 1971 to 1988. Nicknamed "Super" and regarded as surprisingly agile for a player of his considerable size and a strong overhead mark, Carey began his career playing mainly as a forward, forming a memorable partnership with full-forward Fred Phillis, before moving into the ruck for the remainder of his career. Tony McGuinness (footballer)
Anthony McGuinness (born 6 May 1964 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former Australian rules football player who played for Footscray and in the VFL/AFL. His wife is former ''Nine News'' Adelaide presenter Georgina McGuinness. SANFL career McGuinness proved his skills early in his career with leading SANFL club Glenelg, winning the Magarey Medal in 1982 at the age of 18. Wayne Henwood
Wayne "Moose" Henwood (born 15 October 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Sydney and Melbourne in the Victorian/Australia Football League (VFL/AFL). Henwood started his career at South Fremantle where he played from 1981 to 1984. He then transferred to Glenelg and appeared in their 1985 and 1986 premiership teams. Sydney recruited him for the 1987 VFL season and he played all possible 24 games in his first year, including two finals. Peter Maynard
Peter Maynard (born 28 June 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Glenelg and Woodville-West Torrens in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He is best known for his time with Glenelg in the SANFL who he played for from 1982 to 1990. Maynard was a member of Glenelg's drought-breaking premiership win in 1985 and also a part of the team that went back-to-back for Glenelg in 1986. Christopher Stephen McDermott (born 4 November 1963) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the Glenelg Football Club and North Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Scott Salisbury
Scott Salisbury is a former Australian rules footballer who played over 200 games for Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) during the 1980s and 1990s. Salisbury, who often played in the back pocket, was a member of Glenelg's 1985 and 1986 premiership teams. He represented South Australia regularly at interstate football and in 1987 was awarded All-Australian selection. Adam Garton
Adam Garton (born 17 January 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from ACT AFL club West Canberra, Garton was a member of Glenelg's back to back South Australian National Football League (SANFL) premiership winning teams in 1985 and 1986. He contributed four goals in their 1985 grand final win over North Adelaide. Garton joined Brisbane for their inaugural VFL season in 1987, having been picked up from Glenelg with the 27th selection of the 1986 VFL Draft.
