Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National TV Channel ETV has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service ZUUMtv, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. In 2006, only ETV was available for free, but as of March 2009, there are already 7 free channels in digital broadcast. Digital television signal (DVB-T and DVB-H) is broadcast by Levira. Piret Järvis
Piret Järvis (born 6 February 1984 in Tallinn) is an Estonian television host and a singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the popular girl group Vanilla Ninja. Born to Maire and Enno Järvis she has an older sister and a younger brother. After graduating high school she entered International University of Concordia where she was majoring in Media and Public Relations. Later she continued to study journalism at the University of Tartu. She was one of the four members to form Vanilla Ninja in 2002 and wrote lyrics for the song "Club Kung Fu" that made Vanilla Ninja well known in Estonia. She continued as a lyricist for many of the band's songs like "Birds Of Peace", "I Don't Care at All", "Black Symphony" etc. Although she initially played a more 'background' role in the group, she featured heavily on their 2005 album '' Blue Tattoo'' due to Maarja Kivi (the former lead singer) leaving in 2004. Britta Soll
Britta Soll (until 2013, Britta Vahur; born 14 July 1984) is an Estonian stage, film, and television actress and former fashion model. Early life and education Britta Vahur was born in Tallinn, where she attended schools. Her mother works in a bank and her father is a trolley driver. She has an older half-brother, Marius. She graduated from secondary school at the Jakob Westholm Gymnasium in 2002. Afterward, she enrolled at the EMA Higher Drama School (now, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre) in Tallinn, graduating in 2006. Among her graduating classmates were Inga Salurand, Risto Kübar, Mari-Liis Lill, Laura Peterson, Ursula Ratasepp, Lauri Lagle, and Sergo Vares.
