1984 Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament
The 1984 Big Ten Conference baseball tournament was held at Siebert Field on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from May 18 through 20. The top two teams from the regular season in each division participated in the double-elimination tournament, the fourth annual tournament sponsored by the Big Ten Conference to determine the league champion. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. Scott Andrew Kamieniecki (born April 19, 1964) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher who played for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, and Atlanta Braves between 1991 and 2000. Biography A native of Mount Clemens, Michigan, Kamieniecki played college baseball at the University of Michigan. In 1984, he played collegiate summer baseball for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). A league all-star, he posted a 4-1 record with a 2.14 ERA, striking out 54 batters in 67.1 innings. He was inducted into the CCBL Hall of Fame in 2011. Timothy Allen McIntosh (born March 21, 1965) is an American former professional baseball player. He played parts of five seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1990 and 1996, mostly as a catcher and outfielder. Barry Larkin
Barry Louis Larkin (born April 28, 1964) is an American former professional baseball player. He played shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1986 to 2004. He briefly played in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut in 1986. He quickly won the starting shortstop role for the Reds and enjoyed a long run of strong seasons with the team. Larkin struggled with a string of injuries between 1997 and 2003, limiting his playing time in several seasons. Larkin retired after the 2004 season and worked in a front-office position for the Washington Nationals for several years until he joined ESPN as a baseball analyst. John Trautwein
John Howard Trautwein (born August 7, 1962) is an American former relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the Boston Red Sox during the season. Listed at 6' 3", 205 lb., Trautwein batted and threw right-handed. Amateur career Trautwein attended Northwestern University, and in 1982 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He earned a degree in chemistry from Northwestern, was Academic All Big-10 and captained Northwestern's most successful baseball team in school history in 1984. The Big Ten Conference (stylized B1G, formerly the Western Conference and the Big Nine Conference) is the oldest Division I collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference in the United States.
