1983–84 FIRA Trophy
The 1983–84 FIRA Trophy was the 24th edition of a European rugby union championship for national teams. The tournament was won by France, with a Grand Slam. Romania, Italy and Soviet Union finished in the following places, with the same points. The French only awarded caps in their win over Romania (25-15). Poland and Morocco finished in the 5th and 6th places and were relegated. Spain and Tunisia won the Second division pools and were promoted for the following season. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a Contact sport#Terminology, close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. Philippe Sella
Philippe Sella (born 14 February 1962, in Tonneins) is French former rugby union player. He started as a rugby league junior in his home town before switching to rugby union. As a former French rugby union player, he held the record for most international appearances until beaten by Jason Leonard. He became a member of the International Rugby Hall of Fame in 1999, and the IRB Hall of Fame in 2008. Sella joined Saracens in 1996 from French side Agen. He and Australian Michael Lynagh were the catalysts for Saracens as they made the transition into the professional era, and Sella's presence helped other players make up their minds about joining the up-and-coming club. He made a then world record 111 appearances (or caps) for France, and is one of only five players to have scored a try in every game during a Five Nations season. Jean-Patrick Lescarboura (born Monein, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 19 January 1961) is a former French rugby union footballer and coach. His position was fly-half. Lescarboura first team was SA Monein. He spent afterwards his career at US Dax, from 1980–81 to 1992–93, where he won the Challenge Yves du Manoir, in 1982, and lost the final in 1988. One of the best players of his generation, known by his amazing kick, he had to face several injuries, which prevented him from playing in the first 1987 Rugby World Cup. Patrice Lagisquet (born 4 September 1962) is a former French rugby union footballer and a current coach. He played as a wing. He was nicknamed "The Bayonne Express". Lagisquet was born in Arcachon. He first played at U.A. Gujan-Mestras, until moving to CA Bègles, where he played from 1980/81 to 1981/82. Then, he would represent Aviron Bayonnais, from 1982/83 to 1991/92, and Biarritz Olympique, from 1992/93 to 1996/97, where he would finish his career. The Stade Ernest-Wallon (; oc, Estadi Ernest-Wallon, italic=no; ) is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Sept Deniers district of Toulouse, in southwestern France.
