Democrat Party (Thailand)
The Democrat Party ( th, พรรคประชาธิปัตย์; ) is a List of political parties in Thailand, Thai political party. The oldest party in Thailand, it was founded as a royalist party, and now upholds a conservatism, conservative and pro-Market economy, market position. The Democrat Party made its best showings in parliament in 1948, 1976, and 1996. It has never won an outright parliamentary majority. The party's electoral support bases are southern Thailand and Bangkok, although election results in Bangkok have fluctuated widely. Elections in Thailand ( th, การเลือกตั้งในประเทศไทย) refers to the democratic process in which some parts of the Government of Thailand is selected. These include the House of Representatives of Thailand, (which combines with the appointed Senate of Thailand to create the National Assembly of Thailand), local Administrations, Governorship of Bangkok and national referendums. The New Force Party ( th, พรรคพลังใหม่, ) is a political party in Thailand. It was founded in 1974, following the successful democratic uprising of October 1973. The New Force Party was one of the more successful left-wing parties during the relatively progressive and democratic phase from 1974 to 1976. Progressive liberal and reformist in its stances, it was considered more moderate than the Socialist Party of Thailand. In the 1975 general election, the first free election after long military dictatorship, the party won 6.0% of the votes and 12 of 269 seats in the House of Representatives. The Progress Party ( th, พรรคก้าวหน้า; ) was a political party active in Thailand between 1983 and 1989. History The Progress Party was founded on 10 December 1980 and registered on 22 March 1983 by Uthai Pimjaichon who had been speaker of the House of Representatives from April to October 1976 and later broken away from the Democrat Party. In the 1983 general election the Progress Party won three seats. In the 1986 general election the Progress Party won seven seats and in the 1988 general election the Progress Party won eight seats.
